Valley of the Fallen

So, i understand that Franco's body has been exhumed. But using the same logic (that the edifice should truly be a memorial to both sides in the civil war) why is Primo de Rivero still effectively lying in state as founder of the Falange - a movement dedicated to creating a right wing dictatorship a...

Re: Car Hire Malaga Airport

I had 1200 taken out of my account with Malagacar because I had my own insurance. I have written of my experience of my latest hire at New Year a few posts down on 'Car Hire Malaga or Gibraltar [email protected]. Have a look No. you didn't have 1200€ "taken out" of your account. It was blocked against your ...

You don't part with it, anyway its the same with Helle and Malagacar if you decline their insurance, so no difference.

Re: Car Hire Malaga Airport

I always get my own excess insurance policy (I use https://www.icarhireinsurance.com/ ) and never take the car hire company's one which is far more expensive. You'll still the excess deposit blocked on your credit card but it cuts down the extra cost and gives me peace of mind. A friend has been ri...

Re: Car Hire Malaga Airport

If the price looks too good to be true it will be. Expect to part with 1200 euros deposit on your card with the real cheap hire companies. The big boys like Helle Holis charge more but are less of a rip off and are more transparent on there web sites. No, you don't "part" with 1200€. They block it ...

This year in this area the inspector has a properly produced "tick list" and is inspecting every property Davexf INSPECTOR CHECKLIST 1) A practicable entry path for tourist vehicles, or easy transpor...

Crab

Curious. Why, when there is a lot of lobster, gambas, crayfish etc for sale there is a distinct lack of fresh crab. Yes, i've seen it in Eroski but its not exactly common. I would have thought it was no more a cold water crustacean than lobster, for example.

Re: Holiday rental

This is a hypothetical question..if I was to buy a rural property and decided to rent it out as a holiday rental during the summer while I was away what do I need to do in order to have a license? Can anyone get one? Are there criteria to meet? Make sure its got a Licence of First Ocupation. Any ru...

Re: Holiday rental

What is the Spanish legal difference between a holiday let and a long term let (where presumably there are fewer onerous conditions)? For example does the property have to be let to the same person for say 3 moths or longer?

the new government

Not a lot said yet on this forum but i'm betting on higher levels of tax and CGT at the very least. Making sure i stay in (relatively) low tax UK and visit less than 6 months. Now had they introduced a flat 10% tax for all new tax residents for 10 years i'd have ditched the uk and moved lock stock a...

Re: Seeing Africa last evening from Nerja

It’s an illusion - google visible horizon. In the unlikely/impossible event you could see anything it would be just the highest peaks but this is not the case as the illusion actually forms a mountain range. I too have photos of the illusion. Take a look at lifescience.com if you stood atop Mount Ev...

Re: Seeing Africa last evening from Nerja

“Saw” them the other day but it is an optical illusion. Due to the curvature of the Earth you cannot see that far. If you google and calculate height and horizon it will become clear.

It is however an impressive illusion.

Yellow 'Night Driving' lenses have been shown to provide no benefit in seeing ability at night. They are even hazardous, because they give the driver a feeling of seeing better, which no one has yet been able to explain. Studies have shown that they actually impair visual performance and retard glar...

Harvesting green olives

I know that black olives are harvested November December, but when are green olives harvested? They seem to be green for a long time. I only have a couple of trees and would like to have a go at preserving them.

Dunno why they bother. Most of the spanish property has no insulation. How they get away with it is beyond me - i thought there were EU regs.
