Re: Born Again.
I came to have an adventure before I was too old to enjoy it. Seven years on I'm getting very creaky, but I'm still having an adventure.

Re: For our Welsh Members
Diolch yn fawr, Enrique. Da iawn. Happy Saint David's Day. I have daffodils out in my garden and thought about hanging the Welsh flag out, but didn't want to startle the neighbours too much. I have some Penderyn whisky though so later on I might . . . .

Re: Missing the magic of. . . .
First of all . . thank you all . . . secondly many many many apologies to Enrique. My week turned into a bit of a frazzle and I was totally sidetracked from normal life. It would certainly have made more sense if I had asked for advice before the game, instead of afterwards, and I would have done ha...

Re: Judging what to take..
Whatever you decide to do you will end up bringing things that you later wish you hadn't, and will give away things that you wish you had brought with you. Bring the things that matter most to you. Despite all the problems and frustrations you will inevitably encounter you will find that Spain is a ...

Missing the magic of. . . .
The good news is that I am Welsh. The bad news (though it is not news to that great man Enrique) is that I am a technical dinosaur. The other good news is that Wales won a terrific game of rugby . . . . and the bad news is that I missed it. Can anyone tell me how, being a technical dimwit, I might b...

Re: Cheap Houses/ Property in Spain.
Another nice provocative thread, Gordon, and a timely one. There appears to be quite a high percentage of the British people who came here following a dream of a lifelong holiday in the sun who have discovered that the reality is somewhat different. Many have their properties on the market and hope ...

Re: How to pay IBI for the first time
First requirement may be patience! In our area IBI is administered from the Hacienda Local office, separate from the town hall. When I moved here I went to the office (with someone who spoke Spanish as I didn't at that time) and took all the necessary paperwork - Escritura/Nota simple/ NIE/Passport/...

Re: Cheapest places to buy Olive Oil ?
Gordon . . . we have superb olive oil here in Spain. The difference between the price of the best and the poorest is very little compared to the difference in the quality. It really is worth spending a little time and money discovering the varieties of oils that are available. The best place to buy ...

Re: Translation please
Neither "Jua" nor "Juas" appears in the Larousse Spanish Dictionary. Can you put the word in context as that may enable the more fluent Spanish speakers amongst us to work it out?

time to say thankyou. . . .
This seems to be a very appropriate time to say thank you for all the help and information and kindness that comes to us via Andalucía. com. From house visits to sort out new technology, for useful information, for being allowed to share the experiences of other members, for kindness and support thr...

At last - some sensible dietary advice
At last - some sensible dietary advice for those of us who are no longer as young as we might like to be: do not -I repeat DO NOT - eat so-called "healthy" foods. We need all the preservatives we can get.

Re: Lemon trees but no fruit
The mixture that gasman has specified is very effective. I have found it is even more effective against garden nasties if the olive oil is infused with garlic. I keep a jam jar of oil with half a dozen cloves of garlic in it with my gardening gear so I always have some ready. It doesn't put the bees...

To see ourselves . . . . . .
This is especially for Oliveview01 because she entertains me with tales of her Spanish neighbours doings, but it amused me so much I thought it was too good not to share with all our members who might have a similar sense of humour. It also makes me wonder what our Spanish neighbours really think of...

Re: Olives
The hills on the southern slopes of the Sierra Subbetica are plaited with olives and, dependant on the weather, the serious olive harvest starts in late November and can go on until March. That is when the olives have ripened to that wonderful gleaming purply-black and will give their maximum yield ...

Re: Olives
When I first moved here I thought there were only two types of olives - green ones and black ones. I've learned a bit more since then, especially during the hours that I have spent kneeling on stony ground helping my neighbours pick their family olives. My job usually involves scrabbling about to pi...

Re: i have been told i am being denounced
Dear Oliveview01 What an exciting life you lead in your bit of Andalucía! That neighbour of yours must have sex appeal with a capital "S" when you think of the number of ladies who have been to stay with him. It makes me realise how dull it is where I live. Nothing much goes on here except...

Re: Figs_ surplus
We haven't got many surplus figs in our area this year after the long wet Spring but during the Autumn I usually get involved in making "Pan de higo" with my neighbours. The figs are sun-dried as Enrique described in his post. We also collect some almonds on our rambles around the campo an...

I want to reiterate my thanks to everyone who tried to help and also to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Enrique. Re: Kindle
I have looked at the video link but it shows a page with "buttons" that don't appear on my screen. I really am a bit dim with anything but very basic technology. I registered with Amazon but have no idea whether it was .com or UK. I was very careful about upper and lower case letters and I...
