On the other side of the coin a Spanish friend came to stay in London with me and was learing english. She was ordering a meal and asked for kitchen and chips instead of chicken, when you think about it to someone not English they would sound the same. My biggest mistake was Dónde está la caca inste...

They are right, many pieces I was fond of didn't seem to fit in here. We brought too much and within a few years had sold it. Not sure about sofas because even the expensive ones aren't very comfortavle that you buy here.

So how is your spanish Susan too? I presume with your outlook you started to learn before you came out. As for the spanish timetable I have lived her 15 years and never seen one.

Well you made it! seems ages since you first started posting. Good that the animals have settled, ours thrived out here. Think you made a good choice with La Cala, has a good mix of Spanish and Ex-pats and many good reasonable places to eat, you don't even have to go on the 340 if you don't want to....

Theres a pasty shop in the centre of Kingston on Thames, about twenty or more different fillings, out of this world :D there are queues for two hours at lunchtime. Get the right location you couldn't go wrong.

But don't all these "inland" ex-pats working as electricians and builders etc. service the ex-pats or are all the Spanish falling over themselves to employ them. Everyone on this site agrees that you should only use spanish labour.

"Inland"

We seem to have a new breed of snobs on here now. Before it was inland versus the coast. Now we have "INLAND" What does this mean, please tell. Is inland 30 mins from the coast and "INLAND" and hour from the coast :?: Does "INLAND" infer that if you only live inland you don't know what you are talki...

My husband always tips 10% but I don't depends on the meal and service. Last week my husband asked for aceitunas with a fino before our meal and although the bill was 74 euros they actually charged 2 euros for them. I had to nearly break his arm to stop him from tipping!

I don't think spain is on the gourmet list, would prefer French anytime. Micheal Winner says he wouldn't eat most of it  I like paella but even that can get boring.Sauces all taste the same except for garlic and nearly every salad is smothered in bottled mayonnaise. Almost every menu in Spain i...

I think Spanish lad does speak spanish and he doesn't live on the coast. I know transport has improved but you have to do your research its not good everywhere. I wouldn't live inland unless I had 2 cars. When I was a teenager I would have been appalled if I had been dragged off to a Spanish village...

I read something about this in the English press a few weeks ago but can't remember the details. They did say it was a rip off ¡Que sorpresa! Many holidaymakers hadn't even been given the option and the exchange rate was the one the business had fixed for themselves. Suppose you would have to check ...

Its difficult to work throught the red tape in Spain because every official/civil servant will set policy as they go along. This is a throwback to the Franco days. Some places will treat anyone but I saw someone turned away last year carrying a very badly mosquito bitten baby for the sole reason tha...

I have always found Scandinavian food boring and much of it uneatable, but thats down to individual preferences. As for roast and two veg- isn't that what xmas dinner is about, traditional stuff, every nation has its own preferences and if I wanted an xmas meal I would choose a Brit owned place. Mij...

I have heard some really good reports of Spanish Health Service and also some bad reports. Think they are a bit overwhelmed now. My husband only waited 5 days to see a specialist (4 years ago) but I had to wait over 6 months to see one (I didn't, went private). A dear friend who died on new years da...

You can't just blame the Mail, a couple of Spanish guys are quoted in the article one of them a professor at granada university who is concerned about the incidence of stomach upsets etc. I spent some time in Almerimar in the eighties and it was a tip, plastic on the hills, flies everywhere and at c...
