Are you in an Iberbanda serviceable area? Quite an economic alternative to satellite

You could try Onspeed to speed up downloads. I think it is about £25 a year per PC.

Lavanda Try a fereteria that sells hand tools. Belota do a double headed pick about a foot long for around 10 euros. The heads are about 4 inches long and an inch wide. Get into a rhythm and pick it off. The tool works well for all sorts of applications. Be aware that prolonged use will give you RSI...

Spanish in strong budget surplus

Spain posted a strong budget surplus in 2007, the second-largest in the eurozone, according to official data. Spain's surplus rose by a third year-on-year to 23.4bn euros (£17.6bn), hitting 2.2% of gross domestic product. It is the third year in a row that Spain has achieved a surplus - by limiting ...

Interesting technology. Who pays for it? ( The Alcalde maybe?!) How do you get Iberbanda (Telefonica) to supply you with service if they believe you to be in an area of non serviceability? I wonder if Iberbanda keep a list of potential customers they found to be non serviceable and revisit them when...

Seedless grapevines

Amazingly it is exactly a year on to the day!

I failed last year to find a garden centre that sold seedless grapevines.

I understand that there is a good viveros in or near Periana which isn't too far away from us that might sell them. Can anyone confirm that or any other sightings?

I understand that on UK tele this a.m. it was said that maybe 5% of all cars in Britain had no insurance. the police are using the same technology as here to track the blighters down. Surprisingly it wasn't just the normal suspects, a lot of expensive cars didn't have insurance either. Of course it ...

Could be that they are keeping feet in both camps just in case! Funny how no one mentions the large number of other (none UK) foreign cars on Spanish roads. I wonder how many of them are "legal"? How many British people would know whether a Spanish car in Britain was legal? Not many and probably mor...

Spanish city/town breaks - where and how to find them?

I was browsing through an (old) magazine in a waiting room as you do and came across an article with breaks to various parts of Spain. One caught my eye and was a decent looking place, breakfast, museum entry and use of the amazing hotel baths all for 79euros a head per night. I have tried various u...

I shall make a point of watching it as I live "inland". A programme about "gangs of eastern european gangs" makes for better TV viewing figures than town halls and lawyers. Has anyone on here got any hard evidence of such attacks? I wonder if there are similar attacks in the UK? Maybe they are the s...

It looks a good product. Too late for me I am afraid.

You might get more of a response on Fincabook forum. The people on there seem more practical hands on types.

Yes, I saw it and the programme before Part one of the "art of Spain". Both were very interesting. I understood that Franco asked Hitler to bomb Guernica. What a terrible, terrible thing the civil war in Spain was.

One simple thing to consider is where the wet is coming from. Is there an outside slope that leads to the wall? Do you have guttering? Elimination of "standing" water can help. One neighbour has no guttering and has laid a four foot strip of plastic sloping away from the house to reduce his damp pro...

Do you have water arriving at the outside wall(s)? e.g. a slope or no guttering. That could be a useful starting point. I've seen caulking with gaucho ( like a thick rubberised paint) before replastering. That might work. Have the outside walls been "sealed" with a non breathing paint thus driving a...

Shellfish recipes

Has anyone got a favourite recipe they can share with us for a shellfish dish apart from a paella ? I keep seeing bags or loose shellfish and razor clams and so on for sale but don't know what to do with them apart from Mussels of course.

The tax office is on the main one way street through the town itself. If you walk against the traffic flow from say Mercadona supermarket it is on the right about a hundred metres after the cathedral.

Go into the lobby and the tax office is the part on the right.

No that is what we used to call Cardinal Red. The steps in question had a lovely finish with a crisp corner and the whole lot was glossy red. Perhaps that is just a simple paint over maybe gaucho or self levelling compound. Traditionally around here the internal steps are finished with a hard wearin...

Painting concrete steps

I saw some very nice steps in the Museum at Iznahar the other day. A lovely smooth red colour and texture. Nice change from tiles.

Does anyone know how this finish is obtained?
