Have you tried bleach? If the plastic is turning yellow due to UV damage from the sun there is nothing you can do to make it white again.

I had a Mitsubishi Montero (otherwise known as the Pajero in the UK) on hire and loved it. It always makes me smile when I see a Pajero - no wonder they don't call them that in Spain. Look up in a decent dictionary if you're not sure what I mean. I would agree though, to stay well clear of L...

A bit of Spanish does go a long way. You could certainly live in Spain and not speak any Spanish but you will probably have to pay for people to help you for certain activities. Just think about it - if a Spaniard in England starting asking you stuff in Spanish and then kept going on at you in a lou...

I agree with Keddyboy. A long time ago I spent 18 months working as a plasterer's mate. If your lad can alternate between wearing gloves and not wearing them his hands should toughen up quickly.

Suitable gloves are those half-cotton, half-suede gardening/builder's gloves.

If I wanted somewhere to spend 6 months in the winter I would probably choose Canary Isles over mainland Spain because of the weather. I've only been to Nerja in the summer - I don't know what it would be like in the Winter but it is a nice enough resort. You won't need to worry about speaking Spani...

Hi Chris, I have seen your postings on expatfocus. Looks like you are selling everything, DJ equipment, caravan etc. How is it going out there for you? I think I'm not alone in finding your postings good fun to read so keep 'em coming. There has been a lot of troll activity here lately but hopefully...

What is a troll? This is from wikipidia, sorry it is a bit long! Proposed motivations for trolling: Trolling can be described as a breaching experiment, which, because of the use of an alternate persona, allows for normal social boundaries and rules of etiquette to be tested or otherwise broken, wit...

It used to be the case that you could get away with a log cabin on some rustic plots i.e. those without proper planning permission for a permanent house to be built. It would have been classed as a mobile home in the same way as a caravan. The authorities are clamping down on these sorts of loophole...

I think you'll find its pretty wet in the summer as well! I guess there will still be plenty more sunny days than here in north-west UK though. I too am interested other areas of Spain and was planning a trip to Extremadura as soon as I can, but would also like to see Galicia and Asturias. You will ...

a person in the uk earns 20,000 pounds a year (384 POUNDS a week, minus tax.). a litre of diesel is 95p, or 3.65% of a weekly wage. (not accounting for tax) a person in spain doing the same job earns around 12000€ a year (230€ a week), if diesel is 93c a litre, thats 2.14% of a weekly wage. Span La...

I love the Hotel Fuerte Conil in Conil De La Frontera. I don't know about the dogs, but it is a great place to chill out for a couple of nights.

It is 4 star and about 125 Euros a night.

That UK wage per hour must be in Euros. Is the Spanish rate also in Euros?

A few driving in Spain tips:- When joining motorways or other main carriageways from a slip road remember you have to give way and stop if there is no gap for you to get into. Our UK motorway slip lanes are different in that we don't expect to have to stop on them! Maybe because we have 3 lanes, Spa...

Las Fallas - I was there a few years back. Fantastic although I was a nervous wreck as all through the week before, people were setting off firecrackers all over the place. Funny how cultures are different - the number of times I saw fathers and mothers helping their very small children (maybe 4 yo)...

Yes - even Katy's "luxury house" is probably built with little regard to insulation. Building standards are laughable really - If I ever get to Spain permanently I'll try to get a house built to spec and don't think I would need air con or much in the way of heating if it is done right. I generally ...

Frank, With respect you have confused crimes committed with crimes reported - not the same thing! Prison population as a percentage of total population is more relevant IMHO. I don't dispute that there are serious crime hot-spots in Spain, just as there are in the UK. BTW, my flat is a long way nort...
