Re: Weather

Wicksey, we really love salty food and I am craving it even more in this hot weather. I know salt is one of those things that is either good or bad for you, depending on the ideas of the moment but I've never cut back. I think my dad influenced me - his food always had a little white hill of salt on...

Re: Weather

Oh yes, I wouldn't argue with the facts. It's just how I've felt this year - hated it more than usual, must just be my ability to deal with it, rather than the actual temperatures. :( On my 60th birthday, we went on a family camping holiday to Lake Garda. OH and I flew to Italy and the family mainly...

Re: Weather

Eeek! From one extreme to another! So....it's been a cool Summer, FAL ? (comparitively speaking). I guess I must just forget each year how hot the Summers are. Or I don't cope with 'em as well, as I get older. To me, it's been really sweltering this year and I have been a hermit for a good part of it.

Re: Weather

and yet they managed to forecast to within a couple of decimal points the recent record breaking high temps. Are you talking about Accuweather, Olive? As I said yesterday, I find their forecasts way out. As I suspected, the forecast for yesterday - 30C - has now been superceded by the actual temper...

Re: Weather

Yes, indeed! That will be wonderful! I get very excited, those first rains after the Summer lol. I have a photo of me standing in the rain outside our front door, last year, in September, blissfully enjoying getting soaked :)

Re: Weather

Thank you so much, Sid! Weathercast looks much more realistic than Accuweather. The other one is interesting, looks a different way of doing the forecasts. It's a bit late now, I'll have a better look tomorrow. No more grumbling at Accuweather for me :)

Weather

Can anyone explain to me why the weather forecasts always seem to err on the side of caution? For example, Accuweather has me happy that the temperatures are going to be reasonable and then, after the event, the 'actual temps' are much higher. For instance, it is saying that today is 30C but tomorro...

Re: Breast Feeding in Public

I saw a woman breast feeding her baby in a restaurant in the Alpujarras. It has a largely hippy clientele and her feeding her baby seemed perfectly fine. No-one turned a hair. However, I think if it was in - say - a restaurant in a more ordinary Spanish town, eyebrows might be raised. So perhaps it ...

Re: Vegetarian option

Oh dear! That's not good, if they don't stick to their opening hours. I have seen them give notice of a change on occasional days but if you haven't spotted the post, then that would mean a wasted journey. I'll remember Pad Thai Wok and tell my SIL that a fellow vegetarian who feels the same way as ...

Re: Vegetarian option

Quebin, most of my family are vegetarian or vegan, so when they visit, we go totally veggie, it's easier. My son-in-law in particular is always reluctant to eat out for the very reason you specify - you can't be sure vegetarian dishes haven't come into contact with utensils or areas for preparing me...

Re: Public healthcare - Spain & UK

Oh, I agree, Miro. I didn't enjoy the 'milling' and was very apprehensive and stressed about the possible long wait, what order I might be seen in etc etc. i suppose it was the relief of being seen so quickly plus my friend's reaction that amused me. I'm actually only halfway through (maybe not even...

Re: Public healthcare - Spain & UK

I had quite a funny experience last week at Hospital Comercal in Velez Malaga. I had to attend Ecografia Salon 1 for an ultrasound scan. OH and I got there in plenty of time and there were lots of people milling around, a queue of sorts, Spanish style. Further down the corridor there were chairs but...

Re: Lucifer heatwave

Oh, I couldn't agree more! We have taken to going out for a walk most evenings when the sun goes down, that does help a bit with the trapped feeling. I have said in the past "I'm not going to spend July and August here again" but here I am! I suppose you forget just how difficult it is to cope with ...

Re: So "For Sale Ads" are not allowed here . . . . .

I'm not Swerve but I'll tell you what I think (and the reason I don't post here much, these days) When I joined, back in 2008, facebook was not such a behemoth and information about Spain hard to find. These days, there are countless group pages, information pages etc etc about all areas of Spain on...

Re: Why Do People Pack Up and Leave Their Family To live In Spain ?

I am wondering, when 'family' is mentioned, just how close the family members are. Cousins, aunts and uncles etc? Depending on the upbringing, I would hazard a guess that to leave family members other than 'direct line' variety might not be such a wrench. Maybe I'm wrong. I am fortunate that I didn'...

Re: Why Do People Pack Up and Leave Their Family To live In Spain ?

We didn't ever fully intend to live in Spain. We have both been married before and both lost out financially on the break-up of our first marriages - when we got within about 6 years of retiring it dawned on us that we would only have the state pension to live on in our old age. Property prices were...

Re: Help! Two ladies in distress.

Have you tried going back in time? I have to do this every now and then with my Toshiba. I go back to a time when all was working OK. I can't actually remember how to do it ......I would have to have a play around - I know I find a restore point. Has yours always given you trouble, though? If so, I ...
