Whilst still on the subject of language......

I believe a request for "Vino Blanco" in Jerez usually results in a glass of dry sherry. How does one ensure a glass of table wine arrives instead ?

Katy, I guess I meant a choice. Not just the two brands I saw.

In any supermarket here in the UK, we are falling over the stuff.

Soap

This is one for the shoppers amongst you....

Where is Spain does one buy good old fashioned soap ? On a recent trip
(in a holiday destination mind you) all I could find was "Dove" brand from the uk, at import prices and one expensive scented Spanish soap.

On holiday in Ibiza recently, and hearing snippets of mobile phone conversations in the street, I noticed how much the word "vale !" is used.

has anyone got any thoughts about the most useful Spanish phrase ?

Exchange Rates

Just back from a week in Ibiza, I saw various rates for Euros against STG advertised.

What rates are currently available in the Andalucia region ?

Thanks Sid,

I supose it is that tax, i.e on non residents, but I was led to believe it was a property tax (as opposed to income tax) and that having some mortgage you could offset some of the charge.

Does anyone know what rate is charged for non residents property ?

Another slant on mortgages..

Having a choice, is it best to have some kind of mortgage ?.

I believe you can offset a mortgage against an annual tax on property in Spain. Is this true ?

Colinm,

I have rented out a place in Lincoln in the UK for 6 years, and I have only been in the county twice in my life.

I guess us Clare people are a bit more relaxed about these things.

Air conditioning I understand, but would anyone put central heating in place in a new build say 30 miles inland. Would it be needed in Dec / Jan / Feb ?

Would it be better to just plug-in a stand alone radiator ?. In the same vein, any need for a fireplace ?
