Re: Why are guys so crazy???

Brilliantly evocative writing though. I've been to Pamplona once during San Fermin (as a spectator!) and it was an amazing atmosphere, though I have to say that much of it is a blur - due to the quantity of red wine I think!

Re: Parthenocissus quinouefolia 'engelmani'

It sounds perfect for what you need and I don't see any reason for not planting it in a brick planter. I have grown one very successfully in a very large terracotta pot.

Re: Parthenocissus quinouefolia 'engelmani'

Just googled it too - it's a Virginia Creeper! Should grow well anywhere, and could cover the whole house in a couple of years. They look fantastic in Autumn when the leaves change colour :D

Re: For those living in SW England

Well said Lavanda :D I do the same in reverse here in England! I have a weekly Spanish conversation group (unpaid), but this has lead to requests for paid for classes which start in the Autumn.

Re: For those living in SW England

I agree about the hard and long hours - and the poor pay too. I've experienced all of that, in spite of having all the qualifications possible! Of course it all depends on how much Jool needs/wants to earn and how much she needs/wants to stay in Spain. I certainly think it would be worthwhile making...

Re: For those living in SW England

It's always worth asking around locally - I was offered a job at the local Spanish Primary School (teaching English) because I met the Headteacher (and his wife!) at a boda and we seemed to get on well! Nothing like the personal approach! I really get a VERY strong feeling that you'd rather try to f...

Re: For those living in SW England

Jool, if you were to stay in Spain couldn't you teach English in a Spanish school? It sounds as though your qualifications are more than sufficient. Just a thought - perhaps in Extremadura?

Re: For those living in SW England

Hi Jool: More depressing news from here in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds. Prestty much the same as reported by Lavanda. Friends in the tourist trade say there are still plenty of English tourists who cannot afford to go abroad, but they have very little to spend. Many boarded up shops and 'Sale' sig...

Re: Daughter's 'Muriel'

Irene D - I originally had a gallery in Spain. It did very well too! Sadly I'm in the uk now so can't help her in any practical way, but agree with what K chameleon says. She only needs to get one or two visible commissions for people to admire and I'm sure work would roll in.. Another suggestion wo...

Re: Daughter's 'Muriel'

She's VERY talented IreneD! I'm sure if you could build up her confidence she could get lots of work. If I still had a gallery over there I'd certainly be interested in her skill. Please tell her to keep using her talent, she really mustn't let it go to waste.

Re: Marbella demolition started

Extremadura is very appealing I must say. I still have Euros in Spain from the sale of my house and am dithering about whether to send them back here to the UK (and make some money on the transfer), or buy again in Spain. By the time I've decided the property prices will have increased again and the...

That's an excellent link Lavanda. I generally read El Pais in Spanish, but there's so much to plough through I often miss/skip the most interesting/relevant bits! It's great to have the paper abridged and translated for my lazy days. Image
