Re: Biodegradable Household Cleaning products

Katy for many of us who live in the campo without mains water/sewerage this kind of product is a necessity and for some of us with an interest in lessening the impact of chemicals etc on the environment finding out about a local, sustainable service like this is useful.

Re: Kindle

I have one-3G version. Bought in UK. We have no wifi or 3G at home but I can get 3G in our nearby village and ironically about 10 mins walk from our house so I download books when I walk the dog! I travel a lot for work and I can now read the paper on it and download books wherever I am. It is fanta...

What should I be planting now? November

Ok so I have put horse XXXX on my beds and we have had a nice bit of rain. I have put some broccoli plants in, some rocket plants I grew from seed and some flower bulbs in pots that I saved from last year. Some perpetual spinach is doing nicely. What should I be planting now? What seedlings should I...

Re: Location?Location?Location?

You could base yourself in Sanlucar. It has beaches, seafood a plenty , nice town square, sherry houses and a market-all in easy walking distance .Easy access to Jerez, Puerto de Ste Maria, Cadiz, the Donana national park and a little further afield Vejer, Bolonia beach, Tarifa etc. I love the place...

Re: English Tuition for British children

I second the advice for encouraging as much reading as possible.
Each year I get the appropriate age Key Stage revision books for English language studies (from Smiths and most large UK supermarkets) We work through these over the summer and I also do some work with English spellings.

Re: Huelva/Cadiz coast - what's open start of May?

I find this rather a strange question. Of course cities, towns and villages are 'open' in May-people live there all the year round! If you mean are public swimming pools open-no they don't usually open til end of June. But shops, most restaurants, banks, cafes, beaches are open all the year round! The...

Baptism

We have been invited to a friend's baby's christening and to a lunch afterwards. Can anyone give advice on the usual kind of gift to give? Is it ok to give non religious gifts? Also are these events 'dress up' occasions?
Thanks in advance

chinese restaurant Alhaurin or Coin

We would like to celebrate Chinese New Year and will be in the Alhaurin/Coin area on Friday. Does anyone know of any good Chinese restaurants in or around those areas? Prefer lunchtime opening.
Thanks

Re: I would like to join a local band/orchestra

Most local town halls (ayuntamiento) have a 'cultura' department who organise things like music classes for kids and adults. You sign up each September and pay per term -it's good value . Some have bands and small orchestras. My small village (Cadiz province) is organised like this and we have a thr...

Re: cyclamens

Thanks everyone for your collective wisdom! I'll try keeping them in a shady, dry and cool place this year this year and see what happens -even if they die I can buy them again fairly cheaply in December and get 2 months enjoyment of them.

cyclamens

I bought 5 pretty cyclamens this Christmas and put 3 on the terrace and 2 inside-all in pots. They are still going strong. Has anyone had any success in keeping these on over the summer so they flower for another year? Last year I planted them in the shade with reasonably regular watering but they d...
