Re: Spanish attitude to guiris & vice versa - chicken or egg?

It's people like you that are the problem.......always apologising for being British (or foreigner). The "fat Brit" had the right idea and knows full well that he was despised before he even opened his mouth. It's nothing to do with language!! The Spanish hate foreigners and particularly the Brits. ...

Re: Find a good pest control

No need of professionals!!

We use paparrin, which is cipermetrina based powder.

Works everytime!! We buy in 5kg packets. Spread a little near the ant "home". Will all be dead/gone in a couple of hours.

IMO Better than spray.

Re: Gates.....??

it used to be "about" 100€ / m2 fitted and painted. That seems a bit cheap!! We're in Canarias and have spent 3 months trying to find a company capable of making a gate. Loads of carpenterias metalicas around but most haven't got a clue about design nor engineering. Price for 4m * 2m swing gates in...

Re: Britains Going To The Dogs-I'm Staying In Spain !!

"Cognitive Dissonance" best describes the views of the people met in LIDL. Something I've noticed is that people will say whatever is necessary to re-enforce the view that they are right. Unfortunately, everyone's a liar. "I'm right, You're wrong." If they'd moved to UK, they'd be rubbishing Spain. ...

Re: Retaining wall movement

I presume you mean PERITO.

I wouldn't bother. the very fact that the wall has moved 6 inches, would imply it wasn't built correctly in the first place.

Re: Bees and bee hives - please help

I don't go for the softly subtle hint approach as it doesn't work. Denounce to Policia Local; It is on public land afterall (Although I suspect that's not the case). The bee keeper has rules to follow. Use the system to make sure he does. A denuncia to Medio Ambiente would be worth it also. Don't wo...

Re: Expired Driving License

It's no problem to exchange an expired UK one for a Spanish one. I did it. No complications whatsoever. I didn't even have my UK one to physically present to trafico as DVLA had confiscated it.

Best option is to go to trafico and start the procedure. Let them decide if there's an issue !!

Re: Height of wall between properties

If rural (non-urban), the max height as defined by the Codigo Civil is 2m, in various combinations. The autonomous region can regulate further. Go to the townhall and demand to see the project for the offending wall. If none exists or the actual work doesn't reflect the paperwork, make a formal/writ...

Re: Denuncias

Your question is a little generic, but I've experience of similar stuff so........... The CCTV issue is a data protection issue, so any denuncias would be made through that agency. The verbal abuse is a police issue. If u denounce someone they will be given the opportunity to respond to the denuncia...

Re: 1 metre high retaining wall

I think it unlikely that the townhall would pursue a complaint for an extra 10cm. You would be allowed more than that in contingency. So, ignore it unless you receive a formal written complaint. For 10cms, I suggest raising "ground level". It's what the Spanish would do. Alternatively, denouncing th...

The police aren't really interested in crime reported by the public; It upsets their normal routine. My SPanish partner phoned the police to report a house being broken into. the response........we're busy doing the school run at the moment. We've also had the necessity to involve the various police...

Re: Is the Vueling baggage allowance ever controlled?

What irritates me about Vueling is their expectation that I, with minimally sized luggage is expected to store it under the seat to make space in the overhead lockers for the aholes with luggage beyond the allowable limits. The cabin crew only target those that they know won't fight back. For instan...

Re: The Spanish Jigsaw Puzzle.

I disagree with the sentiment posted so far. In Spain, there is a law and a procedure for everything. Unfortunately, many people (both foreigners and Spanish) think that they can circumvent these procedures, in a "I want it now" attitude. My partner is a Funcionario and so has to tolerate all the BS...

Hi! We are a couple from Norway, that has bought a cortijo near Casarabonela (Malaga). Do any of you have any experience in how to find such a professional person/compan...

Perfect solution for people with fincas. We bought it late last year but interestingly since our ne...

Re: Root bound succulents

We find that the easiest way of propagating is to immerse cutting in a glass or bottle of water until roots establish.

works very well with succulents.

Also works well with Figs, oleanders/adelfas.
