Re: Where's The Fire??

I watched it all from Playazo beach in Nerja. There were two heleicopters dumping water on it and a small yellow light aircraft dumping some red stuff too. They were at it for about an hour and a half. They were on the scene very quickly and dealt with it very effectively. From where we were standin...

Re: Weather Warning

Rain all night here. That's two nights so far. I'm lovin' it! I can sleep because its cooler. Last year and in July this year I had huge problems trying to sleep through the heat. I ended up going to the pharmacy for some sleeping tablets. They worked fine but I prefer a "normal" nights sleep. I we...

Re: Catalonia bans bullfighting

I think they had already practically banned it in Catalonia anyway. There is only one bullring in operation in the whole province. It was as good as over anyway but it does send an important symbolic message. I dont see the rest of Spain following suit anytime soon even if its just to give the finge...

..... Thoughts??? Possibly that you have too much time on your hands :?:  Interesting tho' :D As the great bill Shankley said, "Football is not about life or death; it's far more important than that." I think the english could do worse that put a quota of the number of foreign players in a cl...

The World Cup: What happened to England???

I was sorely disappointed. I was expecting better. However here are a few interesting statistics I pulled from a quick survey of the Spanish, German and English Leagues. I surveyed the top four teams in each league as of the end of the season 2009/2010 The top four german teams had 123 players of wh...

Food and Drink Price survey by Eurostat

Some interesting stuff here... "... In 2009, the price level1 of a comparable basket of food and non-alcoholic beverages was more than twice as high in the most expensive EU27 Member State than in the cheapest one. Denmark was nearly 40% above the EU27 average and had the highest price level for foo...

Re: More bad news for Spain(and another strike)

I'm reminded of the joke about the two lads caught in the woods with a Grizzly bear chasing them. First lad says, "this is crazy; we cant outrun a bear!" Second lad says,"Whose cares about outrunning the bear; I just gotta outrun you!" Everytime I see "Massive Debt in Greece" or " Spain in Debt Turm...

Re: Buskers & street entertainers............

I can play a guitar and hold a tune and I applied to the Nerja Town Hall in February this year for a Summers busking licence in and around the Nerja area. I was refused: official letter and all but no reason given. My spanish friends have said "just do it", Nike-style, but I'm afraid of getting a fi...

Re: Eurovision voting - 1.39€ Spain - 15p from UK

I have to admit I love the whole eurovision gig. And I also thought the Danes had the best song even if it was a bit "abbaesque". What I really liked was the interval routine. All the people in different cities around europe choreographed dancing in the streets. I thought that was dead cool. ...

Re: Do they do this in Spain too?

I must admit, I think a sporting display of nationalism is not a bad thing at all. The St. George's Cross is not one I see every day but I think that during an intense sporting festival like the World Cup, its a great show of solidarity with others of your nation and support for your team. Now if on...

Re: Malaga Football Club

It was a great result. I only saw in full a few games this season but the wierd thing is that their goal difference of -6 is bettered only by Athletico Madrid (-4)up in 9th position. You get the sense that there is not too much wrong. They had more drawn games than any other team in La Liga (16 draw...

Re: UK General Elections

If the Conservatives won 36.1% of the vote and the Liberals won 23% of the vote and Labour won 29% of the vote, then it seems obvious that only a coalition can work. Either Lib/Con or Lib/Lab or of course Lab/Con (unlikely but not impossable) Most coalition governments in europe take about a week to...

i'm heading back to Dublin for a few days in May and I've booked Aer Lingus. Its about €40 dearer but it the first time in nearly 5 years that I have taken a concious decision NOT to fly RA if all other things are equal. RA and O'Leary need to be careful now. Not becuase of my individual decision bu...
