Re: Coronavirus

We always used to wear wrap around glasses at the dentist in the uk. Dont get given anything here I should change your dentist. I am always given wrap around glasses at my dentist here when I go for my annual check-up and cleaning (Antonio Martínez in Vélez-Málaga). They are always very careful - l...

It has now been announced that from Monday 8 June people WILL be able to travel freely between all provinces in Andalucia -but not outside of the autonomous region, of course.

Re: Andalucia over 65 card?

You are correct, the Junta de Andalucia website says it is for all residents of Andalucia aged 65 or over. Your wife does not have to apply via the Ayuntamiento - just print off the application form from the JdeA website (link below), complete it and send it off with a photograph of the correct size...

Alcaucín is a municipality in its own right therefore nothing to do with Vélez-Málaga and your water bills won't come from the same company.

Re: Antequera

I've only been to Antequera twice so can't claim to know much about it at all. The first visit was in June and it was so hot it made me feel ill. The second was in January and it was freezing. I live 5km inland and the difference in temperatures was really marked. It's a nice place to visit but the ...

Re: Earthquake last night

Yes, we felt it at 10.50 pm. It was as though somebody had bumped into my sofa quite hard and it jolted, only for a second though, and we didn't notice any rumbling or things rattling on surfaces. Apparently there were two further tremors later on, although we didn't notice either of them.

Re: Tax Currency Ave rate 2019

I'm sure it's just a typo, Sid, but shouldn't that read 1.13934? That was the figure you showed in an update to the excellent thread in FAQs on Spanish Income Tax for Residents.

According to the section headed "Use of Vehicles" in this article from El Pais in English, it applies to the whole of the country, those areas in Phase 0 as well as in Phase 1. https://english.elpais.com/society/2020-05-09/as-half-of-spain-moves-to-phase-1-of-coronavirus-deescalation-what-...

Re: Coronavirus

It doesn't say that only 2 people from the same family are allowed to travel in a vehicle together, it says that as many people as there are seats can travel together (up to a maximum of 9 seats) as long as they live in the same household. This applies both to provinces which are advancing to Phase ...

Re: Coronavirus

The autonomous region of Valencia has been allowed to break it down into health districts, with some progressing to Phase 1 and others staying in Phase 0, so it does appear that Andalucia has been treated unfairly by the insistence that the entire provinces of Malaga and Granada must stay in Phase 0...

Is that service going to be available this year, because of the corona virus situation? At the moment our local Hacienda office is closed to the public.

Re: 10% Deposit for property

My experience when selling a house was the same as DA's - the buyers paid the 10% deposit to their lawyer who transferred it to me pretty much immediately. I did the same thing when I bought my new property a few months later. Both transactions involved estate agents. My buyers wanted completion wit...

A discount was introduced in Vélez-Málaga after the last time catastral values were revised, and for properties up to a certain value it amounted to 90% of the difference between the former IBI bill and the increased one following the catastral revision. In order to qualify, not only did the propert...

Re: Kicking Endesa Into Touch

The problem with Endesa is simply to change the payment IBAN. Dealing (in Spanish and English) with their Atención Cliente is very frustrating. They refuse to help with the change, constantly referring me to their ‘área cliente’ which I cannot access. They insist I am not the contract holder which ...

Re: UK Civil Service Pensions post Brexit

The County Council also send the form via email as well as allowing it to be returned via that method - much better, imo, than them spending money on postage and having letters take weeks to reach the people they are addressed to, like this recent example from MyCSP where they were sent out on Chris...

Re: UK Civil Service Pensions post Brexit

It doesn't seem very cost effective for the pension scheme, though, to be paying 10 pounds to every overseas pensioner just to prove their ID (plus any additional admin fee Western Union may charge to the sender). The method my husband's County Council pension scheme uses (a form which has to be sig...

Re: UK Civil Service Pensions post Brexit

I received the same letter, Lavanda, also dated 24 December but mine arrived a couple of days before yours. I've scanned it and sent it back via email. I wouldn't read anything sinister into it. In my opinion it's just a "proof of life" form which almost all pension schemes require pension...

Re: Advice please on buying an apartment in Caleta de Velez

As others have said, there is nothing sinister about friends of the owners holding the keys. We have done this for a number of friends over the years, including letting estate agents have access to conduct viewings when the properties were for sale. Our friends preferred us to hold the keys rather t...
