Re: Coronavirus

All the people I mentioned in my post, including me, are going on their trips for family reasons — all to do with very elderly parents. One friend has a 94-year old Mother who lived alone, fell in the Spring, and broke her hip. His trip is to help her resettle back into her home or search for altern...

Re: Coronavirus

Slightly new direction but still Covid-19: In the last week there has been a marked rise in comings and goings among the British Spanish residents in the area where I live. A couple who were stranded in the UK since March flew back into Madrid last week on a RyanAir flight that was totally packed — ...

Re: Travel to the UK

Thanks for the information, Peter. EasyJet sent me a link to the form for my coming-up trip. All was well until I had to fill in the dates of travel and was told I had to fill it in 48 hours before my flight. The form is like all the other GOV UK forms and can be saved partly filled in so I do not h...

Re: Masks to be mandatory from next week in Andalucia

Just come back from Cáceres. Most people were wearing masks but several small groups of teenage males were not wearing them, even under their chins. Teenage girls seemed to be complying. Maybe that's a gender thing. Walking back to the car we stopped at an Italian Ice Cream place and then slowly ate...

Re: Masks to be mandatory from next week in Andalucia

Nice one, Katy. Maybe we can have a new thread, “The politics and economics of pandemics” but I think it would be too depressing and just bring out the cynics, like me!

Re: Masks to be mandatory from next week in Andalucia

It hasn’t, Beachcomber, but maybe people can’t read Spanish.

We have always had free masks issued by the Ayuntamiento from day one. They are also on sale at Farmacias for a fixed price, 75cents, I believe.

Re: Masks to be mandatory from next week in Andalucia

All very interesting but, for me, there is no evidence that masks do, or do not, stop Covid-19 infections. The blanket order for everyone to wear them or be fined is the problem, for me. Same as the, eventual, blanket order for everyone to be vaccinated. No. I can make my own mind up about these thi...

Well, at least things are clear in Andalucia. Meanwhile:

Re: Masks to be mandatory from next week in Andalucia

Me walking down the Promenade in Marbella would come under No. 4. Seems reasonable.

Re: Masks to be mandatory from next week in Andalucia

Good post, Beachcomber. There are lots of articles all over the mainstream press this morning saying that wearing masks now, at this stage in the virus, is idiotic and makes no sense at all. In my experience, in hot Extremadura, wearing a mask DOES make you hotter, more likely to perspire (and with ...

Re: Masks to be mandatory from next week in Andalucia

I remember 20+ years ago, when I had my house in Coín. I spent my days on the beach in Marbella and my evenings in the Plaza de los Naranjos having a loooong dinner. Then in my tiny dress and teetering-heeled sandals I would be walking on the Promenade, doing the Paseo, looking at other people also ...

Re: Masks to be mandatory from next week in Andalucia

"Good to see that the conspiracy theorists are alive and kicking." We are alive and kicking because we have not been vaccinated and nor have our children (see below). "I take it that you have never had a vaccine in your life and that you never had your kids vaccinated ?" See above. "There never used...

Re: Masks to be mandatory from next week in Andalucia

Like you, DA, I know a lot of people but do not know anyone who has had Covid-19 or anyone who knows anyone who has had it. To me, there is something else going on and it is looking more and more like a practice in the manipulation and control of the population for a reason, as yet, unclear (to me)....

Re: Masks to be mandatory from next week in Andalucia

The scary thing, for me, is that an adult person's right to make choices for themselves is fast disappearing. You know the scene, one person's choice NOT to wear a mask will put in danger another person's health, so masks become compulsory. In a sane world the person whose health is at risk should b...
