Re: Compact scented plant needed

I’d go for a scented rose. Take a look at David Austin’s web site. Their plants are expensive, but you will get a good idea of growth and scent. We have some in a very exposed, windy condition, and although they lose all their leaves over winter, they come back every year and flower well. Having sai...

Re: Buying Online Factory Direct to Spain

A couple of years ago I bought some fabric from USA. Total was about 200 dollars. It was stopped in Madrid and I received a letter telling me it wouldn't be released until I had paid import duties, which came to about 70 euros as far as I can remember. I paid it - i can't remember if I did it via in...

Re: Wintering a pool

We close ours end of September and don't open it until May. We cover with winter cover as advised. Only problem on opening it is rainwater washes dirt through mesh, so that area of the pool needs a good clean. We use the winterising chemical additive but not sure it makes any difference. Only other ...

Re: What items do you miss most?

You'll be surprised what you can buy here. Last week Aldi had marmite, vintage cheddar, two types of Branson (original and small chunk). I remember bringing back vintage cheddar a couple of years ago, and when we got back Lidl we're having an English week, with the identical cheese cheaper than I'd ...

I suspect if she had been upset she would have run away. She sounds like a very bright cat, but obviously not as bright as my little girl!

Re: Malaga airport new departures procedure

We dropped off Thursday morning and picked up Monday evening. On Thursday the departures system was a nightmare. Long queues to get in, then when you go into the car park everyone just abandoned their cars in the aisles to let people out. We managed to get through in 15 mins, but it was a fairly clo...

Translation of vegetables

I bought a sandwich and drink at a motorway service station, and got a free recipe book - cooking with vegetables! There are a few ingredients listed which I can't work out. I've tried googling and translating but don't get anything sensible

The words are

Tirabeques and girgolas

Any ideas anyone?

Re: dorado

If it's been seen in lots of areas, it's unlikely to be a problem with an individual restaurant. It's horrible, however it happened. Much as we like fresh tuna, have been avoiding it since.

Re: dorado

My oh was affected by this, so I checked it out. It's called scombroid toxin. It gives a variety of symptoms, in his case really bad asthma symptoms unrelieved by ventolin. The second time it happened, antihistamines worked. It's apparently caused by incorrect (too warm) storage of fish before cooki...

Re: Drought tolerant ground cover

We've got one which is a bit of a thug. It's common name is lions claws. Sorry don't know proper name. It's some kind of succulent, and gets pink or yellow large daisy flowers. Needs no watering and spreads quickly.

Clicking on links

For a while now, when you click on a link in a post, whereas it used to open in a new tab, it now opens in the same one. Can we have it back how it was please?

Re: Vueling seat allocation

We don't fly with Vueling normally but went with them into Cardiff, and paid for priority boarding. At the gate, when asked where the two queues were they said there was only one and we could queue with the rest of them. All the passengers with priority boarding were stood together, so we staged a m...

Re: Recommendation for new car hire

I've hired with Autoclick at Malaga 4 times now, and have only praise for them. The return point for the cars is in a big warehouse with only artificial lighting, so they put the cars under a floodlight to check them. I haven't had a problem with any damage, despite taking it into the campo every ti...

Re: Torre del mar police foreigners department

We've been today. Got there at 7:55 and left finally at 11:30. Having said that, the longest delay was probably the bank queue. For anyone who hasn't been, there is only one bank (Cajamar) close to the police station and they use the random queueing system. Free at last has outlined the process at t...

Torre del mar police foreigners department

Has anyone been recently? Can you make an appointment? If not, what time do you need to get there to get the precious number to queue? Thanks. Really looking forward to a trip there!
