Re: Selling Process

What you do is declare the sale and gain on your next tax return and tick a box that says you want to defer the tax for up to two years in case you reinvest. After two years you fill in another declaration and say that you have reinvested it. This sounds wonderfully simple. Is that really all there...

Re: Struggling to understand CGT

No, my Spanish isn't up to it. Our lawyer is querying it, but he doesn't hold out much hope.He has also said that it could take " Quite a while". We have been advised (by a different lawyer) that if we have a sales contract, we have a chance at getting a reduction, but it may be mid way. C...

Re: Struggling to understand CGT

It looks as if we are about to lose our purchaser ( the second one) because the purchase tax (calculated on the Catasral Value) is ridiculous.Even without the threat of a future CGT bill. I'm not sure, even if they go ahead, that we'll come out with enough to invest anywhere. This is why I'm wonderin...

Re: Struggling to understand CGT

I've been reading through some old posts but I'm unclear as to whether CGT can be reinvested in another European country. If we leave Spain, can we reinvest in the UK? What proof of reinvestment would be required if we stay in Spain? If we reinvest in the UK? Do we have to produce paperwork or tick ...

Re: Struggling to understand CGT

The neighbour's CV has risen by about the same percentage as ours,300%. However one neighbour with a similar sized plot and build has a CV of 510,000 where ours is 890,656. I believe this is because the value of ours was reset when we bought the property, whereas he's has his for much longer. This m...

Missing dog in the Algarrobo area.

A lovely dog that was adopted from APARIV on Monday has gone missing and was last seen in the campo near Algarrobo. I haven't been able to get a photo from my email onto here, but hopefully the link below will take you to a page where you can see the dog and the description. If you are anywhere near...

Re: Struggling to understand CGT

It's our primary residence.

I doubt the purchaser would be willing to take a chance as there would be a hefty amount if he gets caught for it.

Unfortunately our catastral value has risen from 158,000 in 2004 to 890,000. The last valuation of coyrse was just before property prices dropped. :(

Re: Struggling to understand CGT

Thanks very much. It's all very worrying. We might have achieved the amount on our catastral value four or five years ago, but we haven't a hope in hell at the moment. It looks as if we have no choice but to contest it. Watch this space...

Re: Struggling to understand CGT

Thanks very much for the replies. I'm going to read them again tomorrow, sin vino! The property is in Velez, not Almunecar. Nothing is being under declared. The price that may be achieved is nothing like the price that the property was worth pre crisis. The sellers are both resident. I'm wondering w...

Struggling to understand CGT

Is CGT paid on the profit that is actually made on sale or on the difference between what the house was initially bought for and the current catastral value? If it is the latter, what happens when the catastral value is way above the current market value? In the case I'm thinking of, over 300,000 ab...

Re: Unable to cancel an insurance policy.

That sounds awful. Good luck with it. I think I would be tempted to wait it out. If they do take you to court, it would seem that you would have a very good case. I think I've been very lucky. Someone phoned and told me that I needed to make a payment. I said I couldn't and she got quite stroppy and...

Re fire: Can take donations to where they are needed

If there's anyone around the Velez/Torre are that would like to send donations of supplies to help those affected by the fire, we are happy to transport some over. We've just got a Ford Focus but can take a car load each day this week if necessary. My understanding is that there is a need for clothe...

Support APARIV with Amazon

APARIV is a dog rescue centre that relies entirely on donations for funding. If you would like to help support the dogs, you can do so at no cost to yourself, just by using one of the links in this post when you buy from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.es. All you have to do is click on one of the links and ...

Re: Stain removal sheets and towels...help

Sunshine, lemon juice and chlorine bleach doesn't work on sunscreen stains. The chlorine bleach could make it worse. Other things that don't work include vinegar, Vanish, Oxyclean and ammonia. I know this because I've tried them all. There is a chemical in the sunscreen that reacts with hard water c...

Sorry, should have said. I apply the Vikal neat (a bit scarey as it's bright blue) leave for an hour or so, then wash as normal.
