Does anyone know if there is a way to "switch off" the person at bottom right of the screen doing sign language on some movies (the info shows S/L)? It's really annoying - why can't they just use sub-titles for the hearing impaired, that would be less distracting for the rest of us? Also, ...

Zanuck, no offence taken  Incidentally, I also applied for permission to have a skip, since I read elsewhere that the council employ a gofer on a moped (with no exhaust) to go around looking for skips with no permission, and to locate obras without permits. The address I gave is a main road an...

Zanuck, you're right, I will be making a bit of noise (but who'd notice anyway, with all the noise from mopeds without silencers) but my licence does stipulate that I follow Municipal rules - not always easy to find out what they are, but I think it's safe to assume I should refain from making noise...

Bit of a technophobe, so before I try this, can anyone confirm there will be no side effects? I mean, changing the frequency and all that, is there a possibility of losing other channels?
I never had any problem getting CH4 - don't want to mess it up!

...and a 1.3m dish is probably the minimum size you need on CDS, better still a 1.5m. And forget Channel 5, particularly at night, when the wind blows or when it rains, and always when there's anything worth watching on.

I just got permission for minor obras in an apartment in Torremolinos in just 8 working days, which is hardly enough time to notify anybody who may be interested. I think it would have been quicker, but they had to send someone to Alhaurin for a signature on something. I don't know if the informatio...

True story: Had a guy renting an apartment in the same building where we lived. One night, at 4am, our intercom buzzed. We ignored it at first, but it became quite persistent, so my wife eventually got out of bed to find out who the Hell was bothering us at such an hour. Our tenant was outside, VERY...

I drove all the way to Andorra to buy my camera, because they're very cheap there. I saved €100. When I added up the cost of fuel and overnight stops, I realised my thinking was slightly flawed, but I enjoyed the trip anyway. I swore I would only ever buy a "brand" name camera, but some sm...

Someone beat me to it (think it was Rick?) - dates in bacon, mmmmm. Try to buy "deshuesado" dates, it's a sticky business getting the stones out otherwise. If in season, pimientos de padron (the little green peppers) are a lot of fun as you never know which ones are going to blow your brai...

There are three ways of measuring a building. The first, when you apply for a licence, is the absolute minimum and only includes the basic internal usable facilities, conveniently forgetting the garage and utility room and possibly one of the bedrooms - this also goes on the Escritura. The second, ...

Kenny, what's wrong with Torrie? If it's cold & wet when you arrive, you can always stop off here. I'll get the missus to put on a big pot of Scouse. But if you really want to avoid us, just stay in the right hand lane and follow the signs for Benalmadena. If you see the BMW garage, you've just ...

I had the towbar problem with a Landcruiser - this was 10 years ago BTW. Nice to know some things haven't changed! Another semi-problem was that the model I brought over was originally sold in Germany, with a petrol engine, but was never offered on the Spanish market, so when they looked it up in th...

OK, just one more for now: Had a German guy rent an apartment, got behind on his rent, moved a Moroccan prostitute in with him, started getting complaints from neighbours etc etc. Went to confront him, asked him to leave. Started to get a bit nasty, and he got on his mobile and called for back up. I...
