Re: Adverts

Strange indeed. Bit above my pay grade, but I can't see anything in the page source code that would indicate overlay ads should appear, but perhaps the mods can pass this on to site admin to see if they have any ideas.

Re: Adverts

If I turn off my adblocker I get an ad for Adobe cloud solutions. If you click on the "ad choices" icon in the corner of any Google ad it will tell you (very vaguely) on what basis you are being delivered that specific ad. In my case, and yours Katy, it's probably keyword based targeting, because th...

Re: Adverts

The last one was full screen, overlaying the thread and said something like 'Watch free movies when you sign up'. No service product or company names. Wouldn't have thought you were desperate enough to link to pirate movie sites. If it says "watch free movies when you sign up", then it's probably a...

Re: Adverts

One word: cookies. Advertisers can serve up ads to their preferred audience based on various criteria; language, location, content of pages visited, and all sorts of other information such as gender and age, for example, which most users are blissfully unaware that they have made available. It can s...

Re: Moving to UK-

Excellent post, masterob; couldn't have put it better myself. I can especially relate to the comment about "memories of less pleasant occasions" and the comparative "ease of life" having moved back. I do think the point about the location, or specifically the precise place you choose (either in Spai...

Re: Moving to UK-

Not sure I was saying that nobody should have to defend their decisions (although in an ideal world they shouldn't have to I suppose). I think what Benidorm was hinting at was that there are those who tend to sound over-defensive about their decisions - which inevitably then sounds as if they actual...

Re: Moving to UK-

(some) will defend their decisions (to return) in the same way that they defended their original decision to move to Spain  I met many of the latter during our time in Spain. I also met plenty who defiantly declared that they would never return - even though it was sometimes obvious that it w...

Re: Neighbours taking me to court - Acto de conciliación

What a terrible situation to find yourself in. I feel the greatest sympathy for you. I'm afraid I can't offer any advice (having never really been in a similar situation) but a couple of questions spring to mind from what you have told us. Firstly, has your lawyer specifically said that it is solely...

Re: nota simple

Isn't it now also a legal requirement to have a nota simple (no more than 3 months old) as part of the paperwork when putting a property on the market? Theoretically this would mean obtaining a new one every three months if the property doesn't sell quickly. I'm quite sure every reputable estate age...

Re: Community meetings

These days when selling notaries require a certificate from the administrator stating that all fees are up to date, so it's impossible not to notify the administrator. But as for other owners, as already said, it's none of their business, although it may be worth letting them know for the reason sta...

Re: Moving to UK-

There's no fee for cancelling / transferring your contract - although the incoming owner may be asked to pay a fianza (security deposit). If the buyer doesn't want to have the supply interrupted, it's in their interest to have it switched to their name immediately. If they fail to do so, you cannot ...

Re: UK car insurance & no claims

I know I tried Saga, but don't remember now if they were just very expensive, or didn't accept the Spanish NCB. Must have been the former. I remember some of the websites wouldn't accept it, and I couldn't be bothered to get on the phone to all of them to ask first and then get quotes as it takes so...

Useful data for Carrefour if they're trying to increase sales of Tenamen  I'm sure they'd pay well for the knowledge.

We felt exactly the same. The only consolation is that settling back in the UK was also far easier than settling in Spain!

I also use Telegram & Signal, but admit very few of my contacts have them yet. Only a matter of time before more people start switching I think. Good news from Suckerberg & co for these alternatives I suppose!

Re: UK car insurance & no claims

Maybe your Gibraltar insurers were ripping you off! Being a free agent now, I spent plenty of time shopping around - even enlisted the help of a friendly meerkat. (Direct Line couldn't come close to Aviva on my renewal quote this year. Their website currently states "We will only accept proof of NCD...

Re: Renta 2018

How have you done your renta until now? If you have a digital signature or [email protected] can you not file it online yourself? Or, if you have a gestor, can you not leave all the figures etc. with them to file for you? (Not sure about [email protected] - I did set it up before we left, but I think you need a Spanish mob...

Re: UK car insurance & no claims

I tried to get them to reword the letter to say I'd been insured with them for 14 years with no claims, but they refused to and were adamant that under Spanish law 5 years is the maximum.
