Re: Travel sickness aids

The wrist bands do the trick for Mrs.M. No idea how they work - maybe it's the placebo effect. I find copious volumes of alcohol has the same effect for me :D

Re: Associated fees in buying a house. High quote?

I hate to put a further downer on things, but continuing the theme of: ...you will never recover your outlay... ; I wonder if you are aware of the costs incurred when selling a property in Spain? I know very few people think about that aspect, but I believe it's quite important. I hear so often phra...

Well, if you want to get an international permit "just in case", all the info you need is here: https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/tramites-y-m ... rnacional/

Re: International driving licence

Sorry, perhaps we digressed from your actual question. I have no idea how one obtains an IDP in Spain, but since the UK has made it clear Spanish licence holders will not need one to drive in the UK, deal or no-deal, isn't it worth checking if Gibraltar is taking the same stance before trying to obt...

Re: International driving licence

I think the fact that they state in the event of no deal , nothing will change, it's fairly safe to assume the same is true in the event of a deal! I was only pointing out that in the event of no deal, holders of UK licences may require an IDP to drive in the EU, even though holders of EU licences w...

Re: International driving licence

Of course, if we leave without a deal, there's no guarantee the EU will reciprocate. Just one of the many advantages we seem to be determined to inflict upon ourselves :?

Re: International driving licence

From gov.uk website (last updated 5th march): From 29 March 2019, in the event that there is no EU Exit deal, arrangements for EU and EEA licence holders who are visiting or living in the UK will not change. Visitors with EU and EEA driving licences will not need an IDP to drive in the UK. EU and EE...

Re: Adverts

Strange indeed. Bit above my pay grade, but I can't see anything in the page source code that would indicate overlay ads should appear, but perhaps the mods can pass this on to site admin to see if they have any ideas.

Re: Adverts

If I turn off my adblocker I get an ad for Adobe cloud solutions. If you click on the "ad choices" icon in the corner of any Google ad it will tell you (very vaguely) on what basis you are being delivered that specific ad. In my case, and yours Katy, it's probably keyword based targeting, because th...

Re: Adverts

The last one was full screen, overlaying the thread and said something like 'Watch free movies when you sign up'. No service product or company names. Wouldn't have thought you were desperate enough to link to pirate movie sites. If it says "watch free movies when you sign up", then it's probably a...

Re: Adverts

One word: cookies. Advertisers can serve up ads to their preferred audience based on various criteria; language, location, content of pages visited, and all sorts of other information such as gender and age, for example, which most users are blissfully unaware that they have made available. It can s...

Re: Moving to UK-

Excellent post, masterob; couldn't have put it better myself. I can especially relate to the comment about "memories of less pleasant occasions" and the comparative "ease of life" having moved back. I do think the point about the location, or specifically the precise place you choose (either in Spai...

Re: Moving to UK-

Not sure I was saying that nobody should have to defend their decisions (although in an ideal world they shouldn't have to I suppose). I think what Benidorm was hinting at was that there are those who tend to sound over-defensive about their decisions - which inevitably then sounds as if they actual...

Re: Moving to UK-

(some) will defend their decisions (to return) in the same way that they defended their original decision to move to Spain  I met many of the latter during our time in Spain. I also met plenty who defiantly declared that they would never return - even though it was sometimes obvious that it w...

Re: Neighbours taking me to court - Acto de conciliación

What a terrible situation to find yourself in. I feel the greatest sympathy for you. I'm afraid I can't offer any advice (having never really been in a similar situation) but a couple of questions spring to mind from what you have told us. Firstly, has your lawyer specifically said that it is solely...

Re: nota simple

Isn't it now also a legal requirement to have a nota simple (no more than 3 months old) as part of the paperwork when putting a property on the market? Theoretically this would mean obtaining a new one every three months if the property doesn't sell quickly. I'm quite sure every reputable estate age...

Re: Community meetings

These days when selling notaries require a certificate from the administrator stating that all fees are up to date, so it's impossible not to notify the administrator. But as for other owners, as already said, it's none of their business, although it may be worth letting them know for the reason sta...

Re: Moving to UK-

There's no fee for cancelling / transferring your contract - although the incoming owner may be asked to pay a fianza (security deposit). If the buyer doesn't want to have the supply interrupted, it's in their interest to have it switched to their name immediately. If they fail to do so, you cannot ...
