Re: Channel 5 SD on Humax box (can't see it)

I might have found the answer and it's not good. It appears that HD receivers will only get the HD channel 5. Yet BBC ITV etc all give you the option which is handy when there is a weaker signal.

Channel 5 SD on Humax box (can't see it)

We had high winds which slightly moved the large communal dish (2.2mtr here in Almeria). Previously all UK channels were being received no problem. But as President I get all the complaints and 3 people said they had lost Channel 5. I called the guy out and he did a bit of tweaking and C5 was perfec...

Re: Jewellery covered in contents insurance Cajamar

Believe it or not they were caught on a neighbour's cctv although not the faces. The local police are fairly certain they know who they are and have arrested one of the suspects but on another charge. They say they don't have enough evidence to charge anyone for the for the robbery. It's a small tow...

Re: Jewellery covered in contents insurance Cajamar

Yep we have Securitas and we know it works as I triggered it when I forgot to unset it. I just wish she had said something before and I could have advised her. I had no idea she had such valuable stuff. No insurance company is going to pay out when you can't even describe properly what was taken and...

Re: Jewellery covered in contents insurance Cajamar

I know Sid, I can't believe she was so silly but she is so distressed that I don't want to say too much to her. She's sorting out an alarm now like so many here do after a burglary but too late.

Jewellery covered in contents insurance Cajamar

Has anyone any experience if contents insurance here (with Cajamar in particular) is similar to UK e.g. you have to itemise anything over £1,000 or some other arbitrary figure. I have a Spanish friend here who lost her husband a couple of years ago and then was burgled on her birthday when she was o...

Re: Community AGM Help

Regrettably it doesn't have to be an owner. I have been given proxies for an adjacent building community so I know it to be a fact. It is really up to the President or Administrator to control the meeting. I am President of a community and would simply not tolerate unreasonable behaviour.

Re: Spanish income tax 2018 exchange rate

I do exactly the same as Sid. Income coming in from the State pension is paid directly as euros into our euro account. The rest is calculated at the average rate.

Re: Pensioners moving to Spain - where to start?

Thanks for that, it has changed since we did it as Nie and residency were separate but it makes sense to do both at the same time now. It's the time scale that is the problem as they haven't really made their minds up. My suspicion is that living under the radar is likely to be more difficult after ...

Pensioners moving to Spain - where to start?

I have a couple who we have been friends with for a long time who are thinking about moving to Andalucia and have spent a few months on and off already. They are both pensioners and have small private pensions as well and own a house in UK. I've explained what I think they need to do and to do it qu...

Re: Transferwise Borderless account

I think it might be when you have a new payee. I'll have to do another transfer to test it but it makes sense I suppose as you've verified the account is correct that you are transferring to.

S1 for disability - prescriptions ?

I know you can get an S1 if you have a transportable benefit like PIP but what I don't know is whether this allows you to have discounted prescriptions. I have a friend who has this benefit and has just moved here but has a lot of medication so it will make a big difference if she only has to pay 10...

Re: Transferwise Borderless account

Oops - Wicksey . Just checked and I was wrong, you do need a Euro account if you want to send Euros so as that is what you will be doing the sterling account (balance) will be for receiving, and the Euro account (balance) will be for sending euros. Looks like you can only send sterling from the ster...

Re: Transferwise Borderless account

Yes, you need a Euro account (although I suppose you could manage fine without it). It is just like the UK sterling account (not a true account as such), it'll give you a Iban starting with DE but that would only concern you if you had money coming in in Euros which is not the case. You get the euro...

Re: Money transfer company

Brimsham, of course, but it was about transfers from companies that seemed to be an issue. I did ask Revolut and pointed out that an up to date comparison site was stating that they didn't do it. I suggested they contact them. I have had no reply to a message or a tweet asking the question " Co...

Re: Money transfer company

Paddy if what you say is correct then Revolut would definitely edge Transferwise although for me it would be too much hassle to change as I know my way around their system. However, the icompare link states that you cannot directly transfer from a UK bank to a Revolut account unlike Transferwise whi...

Re: Money transfer company

Wicksey, that was our thinking as well. Not even sure if it's worth having the debit card as we're more likely to use the Spanish a/c but we'll see how it goes. So far so good and my wife is getting the hang of it. I want her to be able to use the technology as she intends to leave it all to me now....
