Re: Still trying to understand IBI charges !

Well I'm no expert and I'm surprised you have not had a reply yet but I can see from my IBI bill that is based on the value of construction , I guess it means based on cost of construction of the building and an additional valor suelo which is a value on the land. The two together add up to Valor Ca...

Re: Exchange Rates_Again

MY problem with Nationwide was more to do with sending paymnents by swift tgransfer to a Spanish bank. Their online system gives you an indicative rate e.g. today it is showing €1.1642 but it wouldn't even be close to the rate you actually get. Trying to get anyone to tell you the actual rate is imp...

Re: Exchange Rates_Again

Couldn't agree more Steve. We have kept the joint Nationwide account and it is the main account that I use and have been big fans of them for many years. My wife opened the N & P just after Nationwide stopped the free atm use in Spain. They could just as easily restricted it to members paying in say...

Re: Exchange Rates_Again

I was quoted €1.174 this morning paying in a Nationwide cheque. I'm afraid I wouldn't trust Nationwide. I was quoted the interbank rate and was about to make a payment out of my flex to a Spanish account when i decided to check again and was given a different answer entirely. The rate actually vari...

Re: Insurances on an apartment

Our little community is very well run and I have every confidence in the administration but I will check. I think it is probably wise to have your own insurance as well so I will keep that going.
Thanks for all replies.

I bought one of these and assuming you have wifi the sound is excellent and you can set up some favourite channels. http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electro ... oduct.html

Insurances on an apartment

This may be a stupid question but I own an apartment in Turre, one of an edificio of 31 and I have arranged building and contents insurance which is not expensive €164 per annum. However my wife questioned why we had buildings insurance as surely it would be covered by the community charge and if so...

Re: CAN YOU OPEN A SPANISH BANK ACCOUNT FROM THE UK?

It might be a stupid question but would it not be easier to do it when you are visiting Spain. If I remember correctly all we needed was our passports and driving licences (showing UK address) and just had to sign various forms. The bank were extremely helpful (Ibercaja in Mojacar) and English speak...

Re: Which are the best holiday rental websites for owners

Speaking as a former renter I always used owners direct and holiday-rentals.co.uk and found excellent rentals which ultimately led me to buy in the great little town of Turre.

Re: Photo booths

Off topic I suppose but Hell so is everyone else now. I often get asked to countersign passport renewals in UK and always point out that it is not necessary, In fact I would suggest that it would have to be a pretty drastic change in appearance as my son looked nothing like his previous photo i.e. h...

Re: IBI tax

€5000 :wtf: is very high in comparison to what we pay €103 per annum on a 2 bed 2 bath apartment in Almeria but I suppose it obviously depends on catastral value and mine is probably a modest residence in comparison to some.

Re: Working after the age of 65..

Benidorm, you misunderstood me, I was not commenting on your posts. You have got it sorted as far as I can see but I was responding more in general to comments re retiring. I get to talk to lots of people in my job, Personnel Manager (only because no-one else does it - I'm actually in Finance) and t...

Re: Working after the age of 65..

Regarding working beyond retirement age (UK currently 65) . Firstly I work with a 100 + people in a factory and as far as I can see there are various reasons why people want to work on. 1. Financial - in most cases they could survive quite easily but have a fear of receiving less income and not bein...

Re: Granada - Which hospital

Meant to post earlier. My friend has now been discharged from Granada hospital (Virgen del las Nieves) after a successful double bypass. The surgeon and staff were superb and he was treated very well. My wife was able to help with her limited Spanish as there were few English speakers (and why shoul...

Re: I don't believe it!

I agree Sid and that is why I am optimistic that if or when I make a permanent move to Spain, I will end up paying less tax not more as I originally thought. Miro, what we are trying to say is that if you invest your own money in an annuity and say you are 60 years old, when the insurance company pa...

Re: I don't believe it!

Miro, I'm no expert but there is only a hypothetical "pot" with a defined benefit or as prev known "final salary" and good luck to anyone who is due to get one. However I believe there is no possible way the Spanish tax system would see it as a purchased annuity so no concession. I'm not sure if it ...

Re: Moving compact tractor from UK to Andalucia

Jimbothescot.com is brilliant but you'd need to give him dimensions and weight etc. I know he has taken motorbikes and even a small car so you never know. He is a fully insured company and picks up anywhere in UK. He actually lives in Southern Spain himself and I have used him a few times with never...
