Re: Good DNS Provider

I gave up with Smarty due to their BBC problems. Smartdnsproxy have been very good and instant customer service when I've had a question.

SMS from Intrum

A text has arrived in Spanish from Intrum.com/es saying I have a debt: "Usted teine una DEUDA con INTRUM pendiente de pago. Ponganse en contacto con nosotros en el tel 900107553 o entre en portal.intrum.com/es" I think it has come through on a new Movistar SIM I have recently bought and no...

Re: Locksmith

We needed a locksmith for a friend's house that had been broken into and the locks to the front reija and garage were trashed. They had to be removed and replaced. It was 140€ for emergency call out to Torrox from Competa, removing and and repairing the slider bars, then replacing the 2 locks.

Re: Transferring house sale money to UK

What about one of the money transfer companies that have been recommended on here in the past, or is that too risky with a large sum? They would hold it and then transfer it to the new UK bank once opened. When I have used them in the past they held the money then kept me up to date with the exchang...

Re: Torrox pueblo property

The underground carpark (under the new plaza where the market is held next to the Police station) is shut now. Having said that, last time we looked one entrance was not closed off and people were still parking in there, but it is not officially open. The main big carpark is where the olive press is...

Re: Torrox pueblo property

Is it a new development? The triangle of land between those 3 roads is a river valley, although it may be the very southern edge of the pueblo if it's actually just off the MA102. As costakid says, it's not really near anywhere and not particularly attractive.

Re: Retaining residency while outside of spain

Yes, that all seems too easy doesn't it! Mind you I'd still be liable for UK CGT I think as it would have to be my main home for more than a few months to avoid it, but then the allowances there are more generous. For the moment it's not a problem I have but it will arise at some point in the future.

Re: Changing to Spanish driving licence

Wicksey " must be one of the first people to return their UK tax returns". Surely as a resident you will be submitting Spanish tax returns rather than UK? We do both but I do the UK ones myself and send them back almost immediately. As non resident landlords we do have to complete a UK on...

Re: Changing to Spanish driving licence

I realise that now. Our old gestoria used to be really cheap and it was worth her arranging residencia and so on as she would send someone to do all the queuing at the police station, and we'd turn up and go straight in! I always thought that Trafico sounded a bit scary, but it was all OK in the end.

Re: TIE card

The CAB newsletter was sent last Thursday 30 Jan and there is an additional bit about the card: United kingdom nationals (UKNS) and their non-EU family members who are legally residing in Spain before the end of the transition period of December 31, 2020 should maintain the right to reside and work ...

Re: TIE card

The CAB's advice on the driving licence is: Residents who are in possession of a UK driving licence can change these for a Spanish permit up till the end of the transition period. Those who have been resident for two years should exchange the permits as soon as possible. although I do not understand...

Re: Buying a rural property - are any legal??

Never had a problem with pozo negros, certainly no smell, whereas we always know when our neighbours are here from the smell wafting up from their plastic septic tank. I think it would take a long time for anything going into our pozo to end up in the water table and there is an outlet pipe we think...

Re: Buying a rural property - are any legal??

I've had a variety of different types of septic tanks in the UK, France and here. As I understand it, they shouldn't need emptying regularly as they break down the solids with the bacteria that's within the tank and the clearer water after filtration then seeps out. In France you had to have a huge ...

That's why I have a gas oven, very cheap to have on for hours - a tank last me 3 months. I do prefer to slow roast a leg of lamb in that rather than the slow cooker .... also not sure I can fit a leg into it :?

Re: Car Hire Malaga Airport

I always get my own excess insurance policy (I use https://www.icarhireinsurance.com/ ) and never take the car hire company's one which is far more expensive. You'll still the excess deposit blocked on your credit card but it cuts down the extra cost and gives me peace of mind. A friend has been rip...
