Natural Gas

We have a community meeting next week when a representative of the company ELECNOR will be giving a presentation on the advantages of having a natural gas supply installed to replace our existing supply. On the info provided so far we seem to have been told the main benefit is a saving of 20-25 % on...

Residence CARD

This week's editon of Sur in English, page 34 has a report of an event held in Mijas for ex-pats by the Malaga Consulate. Under the section "Residence and tax", it is reported ".....National Police, who are now, once again, issuing the cards, instead of the paper documents they introd...

Re: Documents in car

Very interesting and amusing thank you folks, but can we get back to the original topic please. Does anyone know if it is (or not) a legal requirement to carry the Green Form in the car, and if so, since when.

Thanks, Parilla.

Re: Documents in car

Sorry Sid, I didn't express myself very clearly in the original post. I know what the "Green Form" is, and I've had one since my old plastic card expired. What I meant was that I have never heard of the need to carry it in the car with the other vehicle documents; it's not on the "Doc...

Documents in car

According to the British Embassy in Madrid, amongst documents foreign residents need to carry in the car, is the Green Residency Certificate (http://ukinspain.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for ... spain/cars).

Can't remember coming across this before - is it recent?

Re: Automatic Gate Closers

Thanks you two. Campo, that's a good idea - it should be easy as I have already got a similar device for getting my early morning coffee in bed, so I should be able to use the blueprint.

Re: tax cheat in Spain

Katy - your neighbour is a sweet little old widow, and one day she is out shopping when burglars enter her house and take all the appliances etc, all the things that help make her a happy little old dear; but there is no violence, no one is hurt. You are the only person who knows the people who did ...

Automatic Gate Closers

Looking for good quality, substantial mechanical closers to fit the wrought iron gates at the entrance to our edificio. The gates already have closing arms fitted at the top, but they are the cheap and cheerful type. For them to close the gates, which are quite heavy, they have to be set on full ten...

Re: What to do with my money?!

Andaluz Campo, I asked that question recently of my UK lawyer, specifically about any funds which were on deposit in Gibraltar with branches of UK Building Societies. His reply was that the Gib offices were actually just branches, like on any High Street in the UK, and not Gib registered entities. T...

Re: Unable to cancel an insurance policy.

Don't know if it is any help Marina, but we took out Sanitas cover in 2004, and our policy document says in the General Conditions that either party can cancel by giving a minimum of 2 months notice. Seems a bit of an unfair condition, when they only tell you a couple of weeks before the annual rene...

AGM

I know the LPH says a community must have an AGM each year, but it doesn't seem to say if there are any consequences if this is not done. Does anyone know if there are any ? We have not had an AGM this year, the last was in the summer of 2010, and word is there will be a "double" AGM somet...

Re: Endesa - Estimated Reading

Don't know if anyone else has noticed, but Endesa are taking our direct debit payments earlier and earlier. Up to about 6 months ago, they had always taken their payment around the 20th of the month. Since the middle of the year this day has gradually crept earlier, and this month they took the paym...

Exit from EU

Should the unthinkable happen at some point in the future, ie the exit of the UK and/or Spain from the EU, what happens with UK pensioner's health care? Does the right to receive this in Spain remain, or is that right returned to the UK, leaving pensioners to take out their own private medical insur...

Re: Mains water supply pipe

Thanks Gerryh and Enrique. I will go on a fereteria hunt for a key like yours Gerryh (more enjoyable than a trip to Mercadona ). I've got a socket set which I've tried ( Enrique, I am the OH !), but the business ends are not square, they are those multi point star things, and the edges of the boss t...

Re: Mains water supply pipe

Thanks for your replies. It's not a cabinet housing the valve, it's actually the stop-cock itself where the mains supply comes into the apartment in the kitchen. The supply pipe is hidden in the wall, and the stop-cock protrudes through the wall with a chrome plated disc which screws onto it presume...

Mains water supply pipe

I am trying to find a key for the stop-cock valve on the mains water supply to our apartment. I can't find one at Leroy Merlin or local ironmongers, so can anyone tell me if they know of a plumbers merchant type of business on the coast, or anywhere else that I might find one. Nearer to San Pedro is...

Using Kindle in Spain

My son is bringing me a Kindle from the UK - but I have just seen that on the Amazon uk website, it seems that those living in Spain cannot download the books! Please, please tell me that there is a way round this - an easy explanation would be great, as I've never used a Kindle before. Thanks in ad...
