Re: Working after the age of 65..

Benidorm, you misunderstood me, I was not commenting on your posts. You have got it sorted as far as I can see but I was responding more in general to comments re retiring. I get to talk to lots of people in my job, Personnel Manager (only because no-one else does it - I'm actually in Finance) and t...

Re: Working after the age of 65..

Regarding working beyond retirement age (UK currently 65) . Firstly I work with a 100 + people in a factory and as far as I can see there are various reasons why people want to work on. 1. Financial - in most cases they could survive quite easily but have a fear of receiving less income and not bein...

Re: Granada - Which hospital

Meant to post earlier. My friend has now been discharged from Granada hospital (Virgen del las Nieves) after a successful double bypass. The surgeon and staff were superb and he was treated very well. My wife was able to help with her limited Spanish as there were few English speakers (and why shoul...

Re: I don't believe it!

I agree Sid and that is why I am optimistic that if or when I make a permanent move to Spain, I will end up paying less tax not more as I originally thought. Miro, what we are trying to say is that if you invest your own money in an annuity and say you are 60 years old, when the insurance company pa...

Re: I don't believe it!

Miro, I'm no expert but there is only a hypothetical "pot" with a defined benefit or as prev known "final salary" and good luck to anyone who is due to get one. However I believe there is no possible way the Spanish tax system would see it as a purchased annuity so no concession....

Re: Moving compact tractor from UK to Andalucia

Jimbothescot.com is brilliant but you'd need to give him dimensions and weight etc. I know he has taken motorbikes and even a small car so you never know. He is a fully insured company and picks up anywhere in UK. He actually lives in Southern Spain himself and I have used him a few times with never...

Re: Pound euro rate

That sounds about right Enrique. If you read the small print on some of the websites you will see that the rates vary depending on how much you wish to transfer etc. e.g. on World First they state *Any rates given are "interbank" ie for amounts of £5million and thus are not indicative of t...

Re: Granada - Which hospital

They will make their mind up soon, I hope. It now looks like they have stabalised him at Almeria hospital with a view to a triple or quadruple bypass in Granada but all we can do is wait and see. I managed to get through to EHIC in the UK on 0191 218 1999 (on hold for 15 mins) and they will fax a ce...

Re: Pound euro rate

Now that the thread has been re-activated - yes Huzzah!! But I noticed no-one has mentioned Norwich and Peterborough current account. You have to have £500 paid in monthly but it does mean that withdrawals in Euros in Europe are free of charges and you get the interbank rate. The branch in Ipswich t...

Re: scanner

I have to agree. A big problem I had with Epson was the ink drying up unless you were a constant user. I , like Steve, have gone back to HP and quality and less hassle offset the cost of ink. I do agree the ink is expensive but they are now doing compatibles although I prefer the originals and just ...

Re: Granada - Which hospital

Thanks Sid, you seem to be a Guru on all subjects. I did wonder if they were going to do a stent but our friend is confused and upset and as I said has no Spanish so I don't think she knows what is happening. I just get the feeling it is very urgent and I really hope it is just a stent but I think t...

Re: Granada - Which hospital

Bunty, that information is really helpful and encouraging. Unfortunately things seem to have taken a turn for the worse and they have now moved him to Intensive Care in Almeria main hospital. He was in Hospital de Poniente near Ejido as they were staying at Roquetas. It doesn't look like they are go...

Re: Granada - Which hospital

Many thanks. When I looked around I thought it might be this one. My friend is in pretty bad shape so I think they will operate quickly and my wife wants to find somewhere to stay close by to be with his wife , so I am looking at hoiliday rentals. We have an apartment in Turre but it's too far to tr...

Granada - Which hospital

Does anyone know which hospital in Granada specialises in heart surgery as my friend is going to have a triple bypass operation and will be sent to public hospital in Granada but we don't know which one. My wife is going to fly over to be with his wife as she is a bit distraught as she speaks no Spa...

Re: Satellite alignment

Hi Auntflo, Glad we could be of some help. It's a nightmare trying to sort it out and I have decided we need a new dish as well but apparently a 1.2 mtr dish costs about €300 and with extreme heat , cold and high winds - how do we know the new one is not going to get battered out of shape as well. I...

Re: scanner

I have to agree with Enrique - I was amazed at the quality of the HP printer scanner that came free with my sister-in-law's laptop. It scans to pdf and the menu system is very simple. When I looked it up it only costs £27 there's even a wireless one for a few poinds more. http://www.argos.co.uk/stat...

I don't know if this will help but we were losing channels and I installed a new dual lnb , new cable as I only had a single lnb before and I was going to bring my sky+ box over at some point. Anyway I still couln't get even sky news but some other free channels like movies for men etc and I changed...

Re: Travel Insurance again

I suppose that is an option but they are keeping him in hospital so far, and they must think it is pretty bad or they would release him. Probably the best result would be to have the operation in Spain as another neighbour of ours who was actually insured and offerred a triple bypass in Tenerife dec...

Re: Premier Movers

I have used Jimbothescot on 3 occasions and have to say that I was extremely pleased with the very personal and efficient door to door service. Nothing broken, nothing lost and great communication at every time. There might well be some who are cheaper but I have heard too many horror stories so use...

Re: Travel Insurance again

I am very interested in this thread as my friends are visiting Spain for a 6 week stay and they are both pensioners but one of them had angina and when it was told to the insurance company (they have an annual policy) they asked how long ago was the last attack. The answer was 15 years so they said ...
