Re: Coronavirus

Plenty in the news about what various countries are (or are not) doing to contain the spread of infections & limit the fatalities - but I haven't come across anything to explain how Portugal is keeping the numbers so low. Did they close the border with Spain early on? Latest figure is 76 deaths,...

Re: Coronavirus

Swedes also tend to be very pragmatic and sensible, without having to be told to be. I was speaking to a friend of mine in Falkenberg (between Malmö & Gothenburg) earlier. Although they have no enforced lockdown, he's staying home, and ordering home deliveries, which he never has done before. An...

Re: Coronavirus

I signed up for a daily update e-mail from the BBC on the coronavirus situation. Amongst all the doom and gloom, today's message announced "a live page dedicated to all the positive news - the acts of kindness, the reasons to find hope". Thinking I could do with a bit of that, I clicked th...

Worrying about future holidays wouldn't be high on my list of priorities right now either.

Re: CANCELLING MOVISTAR & RETURNING THEIR EQUIPMENT

When we switched from Movistar to Orange the process was relatively straightforward and returning the router exactly as Unicorn has explained. Cancelling Orange when we left Spain, on the other hand, was far more onerous. We were told they would collect the router within 3 months - which clearly was...

Re: Retention return. When to get vocal?

Why not believe the less satisfactory stories as well? Our paperwork was all correct, but it took just shy of a year to receive our refund (plus interest).

Re: CGT Relief

As far as I know, the exemption/relief applies if you are reinvesting the sale proceeds in another EU country, or another EEA country. I'm not sure, but I am not aware of any intention for the UK to remain/become a member of the EEA. So I wish you well with selling ASAP. I would aim to have the sale...

Re: Property in Malaga province advice please

It's good to know that there are others out there who have a positive view of Torremolinos; I did wonder whether the bad reputation it picked up in the past still lived on in people's minds. Mind you, I think I would have liked to have seen the Torremolinos of the 60s, so eloquently described in Mic...

Re: Property in Malaga province advice please

Like I said, not much good for a night out in Málaga. Most Spaniards don't eat until around 10pm, and are just getting warmed up by midnight :D The good news is, however, that during the Féria there are special buses running all night between the Málaga fair ground and Torremolinos

Re: Retention return. When to get vocal?

Since the 30 day deadline for the buyer to submit the retention to Hacienda has passed, I would politely ask my representative to forward me a copy of the buyer's form 211 duly rubber stamped by Hacienda with the date on which it was actually received by them - just for my records, you know?!...

Re: Property in Malaga province advice please

Torremolinos these days attracts mostly Spanish holidaymakers and as such has a more Spanish feel to it; I dislike the term "Real Spain", but for want of a better term.... You'll probably find that Benalmádena (Costa) is much more of a typical bucket & spade holiday resort for f...

I wonder why Torremolinos is always overlooked? Nearest "resort" to the airport / Málaga city with easy train, bus & motorway access, decent town centre, recently pedestrianised, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars & shops etc., new major shopping / leisure complex coming soon ...

Re: padron

I have not personally re-registered a car, so am not really qualified to comment, but I think the potential problem arising from registering on the padrón unless you are already a tax resident is very real so should be avoided if at all possible. Just a thought: as a property owner, rather than pres...

Remember, you are guilty until proven innocent in Spain If you think you are in the right you must stand your ground otherwise they will walk all over you. REMEMBER: Noli illegitimi carborundum.
