Re: notification from bank re NIE renewal

My anecdotal is similar. I got a NIE in 2001, and similar to Free at Last's, to take on the property. Last year, because I was getting a car so I got another piece of paper from Torremolinos. The number never changes, but I'd read that the paper is only really good for 3 months if purchasing a big-t...

Re: bike import

I agree that buying locally makes much more sense, Wollie. When you said you'd consider driving down, I hoped you meant in a vehicle with the moto in the back. I had a 100cc and 100km seemed to take forever riding it.That said, I had a look on MilAnuncios and there wasn't a lot of what you're lookin...

Re: Trip to Seville.

Just returned from meeting up with my eldest brother in Sevilla, as planned. When in May did you intend, Maureen, I wished I'd asked? He arrived on Tues 7th; I did know this quite a bit in advance but - as usual - left my arrangements very late. I was surprised both by the online lack of hotel avail...

Re: Dart charge for expat users

There's a thread elsewhere on the forum where Dart comes up (recent - I'll find the link if requested) and someone else posted an external article on how near-impossible it is for many foreign residents to pay Dart fines, and their contradictory "yes you must/no, you don't have to" emails....

Re: Having a car to use in UK

Don't want to muddy the waters too much here. The straightforward case is that (whatever your nationality or driver's licence) as an ES resident you can drive an ES-plate car anywhere, provided insured to at least TP standard, up to six months (returning it to Spain - and the six months don't have t...

Re: Having a car to use in UK

I've just returned to Spain, having a bit of head-scratching around these complications. I'm with Olive in that I understand the law to be EU-wide and particularly unhelpful to the two-homes, two countries citizen. I looked into this from the reverse angle (UK resident, UK license) but it works both...

FWIW, I meant for his buttocky hassling on a UK street - extradited to where? But not pertinent anyways.

Re: No dash-cams at ITV centre

Off topic, but Anjem Choudary has only ever been expelled from Lebanon. He could hardly be extradited from Britain, as he was born in London. He has, however, served time until recently for support of a proscribed organization (ISIL)

Re: No dash-cams at ITV centre

AFAIK, only Austria requires an actual permit to have a dashcam mounted. Most other countries in EU have varying degrees of interpretation of DPA but the common theme is that dashcam footage taken in a public place for private use is outwith the scope of the DPA. However, posting up on YouTube "...

Re: Entering Madrid by car

And would even up-to-date satnavs advise of or avoid them? I was attempting to make my way through Bilbao ten years ago and a silent comedy ensued with a police officer in his car gesticulating I couldn't do what I was doing and me gesticulating at the satnav and "what can I do?" shrugging...

Re: No dash-cams at ITV centre

It's a combination of the Citizen's Security/Safety Act and the Spanish equivalent of the Data Protection Act. A bit of a mention is in this thread from John the Baptist's mistreatment: http://www.andalucia.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=39261&p=390449#p390449 Being non-res, I was a bit sta...

I've used C A P in Arroyo de la Miel (admittedly just for domestic stuff but they're capable of handling your needs) on the recommendation of quite a few British immigrants in my neighbourhood: http://c-a-p.es/ Marine (Guillon, iirc, but I'm terrible at remembering full names) will respond to your e...

Re: Trip to Seville.

Katy's link to the Torygraph article at the start of the other Sevilla thread mentions some good spots, although that travel-section "sip mint tea whilst holding a hardback copy of Love in the Time of Cholera in trendy Café des Pseuds " stuff is exactly what I don't do. The Plaza de España...

Re: Identification of Guardia Civil and Policia

Organizations such as Liberties, certain PSOE or Podemos (although I'd check individuals rather than assume) elected officials, the ECHR could well be on the OP's side if harassment persisted but, libertarian though I am, chalking it down to a bad experience is the path of least comeback. I hate to ...

Re: Moving to Velez Malaga

Hello + welcome. I held off, figuring Costakid and others would be more familiar, but I've been to, through and past on a few occasions. The old quarter of Velez is made up of tightly packed streets which can be daunting in terms of driving around and parking for first-timers. A real pleasure to wal...

Re: Identification of Guardia Civil and Policia

You may have heard of the Citizen's Security(or Safety) Law, or so-called "gagging law" introduced by the previous Rajoy govt and apparently the Sanchez PSOE administration wished to remove or at least modify but will not find parliamentary time before the election. I'm not getting into &q...

Re: Bank account commission in Spain to be capped at €3 a month

Banks rely on inertia and I expect Spain is no different. My dad set up a Cajasur a/c in the late 80s (some of the other long-time neighbour-owners still have one, too - possibly one of the few around back in the day) and it was convenient for me to just take it over. I really intend to sit down and...

 , welcome to the forum. If I see anyone with a lot of parrot-crud on their shoulder (I know an excellent laundry, but not sure about dry cleaners), I shall say hello. Too much of the "ah-haargh", though, and I might do what the marina doesn't and give you a wide berth. Olé.

Re: eBay and Correos

Wish I could patent it, but I'm sure someone like George Burns came up with it. A search (yes, I have that much spare time) now attributes it to an Apple computer tune - as a two fingers to complaints from the Apple record label about name-pinching. Apple has form for stealing (its OS from Xerox, ip...
