Re: Hotels near M5
I wish I could give you a personal recomm (never stopped near Bristol), but I have used Accor group (Ibis, Mercure, Novotel) a lot in the past and I had a quick look when I saw your first post. I was quite taken by Mercure Bristol North The Grange Hotel. All Accors have 24hr reception; one of the re...

Re: Internet/ISP recommendations for Benalmadena/costa del sol area?
I've flown back to UK for a fortnight so I'll have more experience from next week onwards. Based on a handful of days use before I left, two or three devices surfing etc (we're not power users) no problem. Nice to watch TV again without setting the lowest resolution possible. Sometimes a bit of buff...

Re: Parking Fine in Torre del Mar
Same as you, Costakid, the €3 in the machine (Arroyo de la Miel) after forgetting we'd moved into verano hours. Blue zone indiscretions are treated pretty reasonably - possibly because fortnighters can easily make that mistake and a punitive fee + appearance in some strange station might actually en...

Re: Router
Ah, Gerry, I think your post subsequent to mine clouded Gina's view and you got the credit (story of my life :) ). OK Gina, if it turns out that, subsequent to Mark, Cid, Paul's advice, you ought to try a new(er) router - I'm worth a try. In the meantime, I shall check mine after Monday's flight for...

Re: Router
Just another thing to clarify, Gina, are you getting a router from Gerry? The ZTE I have is 2.4/5Ghz according to the link I put in my post but I'd need to get it out of the drawer on return and check the model # matches exactly and isn't a lookie-likie because mine is definitely pre-2017. If Gerry'...

Re: Parking Fine in Torre del Mar
I've twice messed up (my best was the 2nd time; "No parking between 10-2", that's ok then, on return I noticed the "and between 18-22:00" D'oh!) Both times, my hire car was grua'd and -several years apart- I paid (same day) around €90 fine and €110 grua fees so €200 does seem hig...

Re: Router
Not that Enrique needs confirmation, but I'd second TP-Link for solid, reliable routers. Timing's awkward for you, as I'm in the UK until 19/08, but if you have no hurry I could save you the spends. I currently have this ZTE router lying in a drawer: https://www.4gltemall.com/zte-mf283-4g-lte-wirele...

Re: moto (again)
That looks in excellent condition, especially for 32 years old. I hope the transfer goes smoothly (it occurred to me that young people, very young, can own a moped; do they need to have parent/guardian address documents or are mopeds slightly more relaxed, I wonder) and I hope you have a lot of fun ...

Re: Thick ceiling paint
I used Titan una capa (one coat) which is available in mate. I think it might only be available in 5L (at about €30) which is not cheap and more than you need. It covered the entirety of my lounge (didn't do the ceiling), the two internal doors and plenty left over for touch ups. As the name suggest...

Re: moto (again)
Wollie, I don't know if mopeds follow the same procedure as ####xxx registered vehicles, but it is best to assume that they do (my 2nd link suggests that mopeds have a cheaper transfer tax but otherwise the procedure is the same). The seller might arrange transfer, but you are likely to pay the cost...

Re: Olive Oil, Liquid gold or not?
AFAIK, Trump was postulating all sorts of tariffs on the Unfair EU (Boeing have a lot of form) and refined agricultural products are in the firing line. Depending on the media outlet's audience, they'll highlight the whiskey, cheese, olive oil etc. If you're tuned into Andalucia news outlets, they f...

Re: Internet/ISP recommendations for Benalmadena/costa del sol area?
Yesterday, the fibre cable was run into my place at 09:30 exactly as promised and, similarly, the router at 4pm today. Up and running with Olivenet (goodbye CSC/Excom, I won't miss you) and, in terms of communication with the Fuengirola office and by email, and efficiency of installation, I can only...

Re: Olive Oil, Liquid gold or not?
Near Vinuela, Spanish Lad? I wonder if that's the San Isidro co-op I visited? €9 for 5 litres is very good compared to my 1 @ €5. I didn't look around the lot as I partic wanted the one from the tasting sessions but that's a good price for general use. Hey Katy, re: that Amigos Lounge thread, get a ...

Re: moto (again)
Hello Wollie. The Derbi Variant I remember in a similar mould to the Puchs you were considering earlier; simple, reliable step-thru mopeds. Less likely to have been thrashed by teenagers, but also ridden by some people who never thought of oil, grease, air - unless the tyres were obviously flat - un...

Re: ITV notification
Thanks for the reply, sl, and sorry not to respond sooner (birthday - no drinks - and a power outage for the neighbourhood). Similarly, on my fail and retest at two different stations, I tapped "Si" for cita, entered my reg plate and - it looked like it was 'required' to me - my phone #. I...

Re: Olive Oil, Liquid gold or not?
And back to the OP, no bias - I've long held the view that Spanish olive oil (generic for generic) is superior to Italian and Greek. I don't know if they still do, but Sainsbury's sold own-brand extra virgin in Spanish, Greek and Italian varieties and I prefer the contribution of the terroir d'Espag...

Re: Olive Oil, Liquid gold or not?
I shall shout down this outrageous sexist/youngist/Britist talk by, er, admitting that Mrs 1BL is completely u/s at cooking and, co-incidentally, 'phoned me when I left her for 48hrs to attend a UK wedding (yes, during the service, TG it wasn't a church) to ask where the olive oil is kept so she cou...

Re: Internet/ISP recommendations for Benalmadena/costa del sol area?
I've had a lot of contact with Olivenet now. Always 'Elena' and, while it might not be 'Elena' every time in reality, it is definitely a human responding each time; I am very alive to algobot "Angela here, how can I help?" and sarcasm is above their algorithms "thanks for the suggesti...

Re: Pavement / table tax for cafes
Cheaper prices inside and a reduced risk of the semi-skilled accordion player taking a € for 2mins of Y Viva Espana ? The appeal grows (I know, refusal/ignore option is available but I only did that once when three drunks shouted over a tambourine and hated myself for it. The old Musician's Union, P...

Wouldn't it be better to exchange € for £ once in the UK rather than Malaga? "We buy" is usually a better rate than "we sell"
