Re: Court Fees

I wasn't referring to fines, but to the up front court fees charged to a plaintiff before the court process starts.

Court Fees

Have heard that the Government is about to approve an uplift in court fees to deter plaintiffs from "jamming up" the civil courts. This incudes, when a Community is pursuing unpaid cuotas from owners, a court fee of E 900 for all debts of E 2.000 +. This seems a horrendous burden on Commun...

Re: Uk pensions - how to?

My problem, Sid, isn't the basic pension - that is easy enough to calculate yourself - but the additional state pension. When I reached pensionable age, the amount of additional pension awarded was over 30% less ( more than £1,000 p.a less ) than the amount forecast only 8 months previously - despit...

If you do ask the DWP for a forecast, spanish-lad, take it with a pinch of salt.

Re: Lock for a door

If you google "sliding door locks", you will find plenty of purpose made devices available in UK / mail order, if you know anyone coming out here. Swedish lockmaker Abloy, has a Spanish operation selling them over here, through any decent locksmith.

Re: Struggling to understand CGT

From all the explanations above, you can't help but conclude that this is not the imposition of a Capital Gains Tax. It is simple theft.

Re: UK Winter Fuel Payment

Best way would be for some bright spark to set up a few collection points throughout Andalucia, charge every Brit expat 2 or 3 euros to deposit their enveloped forms at those points, then go round and collect them all in a white van and drive them to Newcastle. Would top up the pension pot nicely, w...

Quebin, what the people at Newcastle are saying is contrary to the information given on the direct.gov website. Under their paragraph heading "How to claim from abroad" , the site links you directly to the specific application form you downloaded, form no. WFP3(EEA) 10/12. The first page o...

Re: Apartment fees

Isn't the new apartment owner only responsible for unpaid community fees in the year of purchase, plus the whole of the previous year ? - and the former owner still responsible for any prior debt ?

Re: Two Sales Contracts ? Is this Legal?

NEVER EVER use a lawyer at the suggestion of an "estate agent" - a recipe for disaster. If you were happy with your purchase solicitor, go back to him whatever his charges, or try to find another independently. Don't for one minute think any more about going down the route you described. P...

Re: Community debt

Don't forget Beachbabe, that the "new owner" is responsible for any unpaid community fees in the year he buys the property, plus the whole of the previous year, whether or not he has registered his purchase. I still don't understand the advantage to this person in not registering - do you ...

Re: Community debt

Beachbabe, it sounds as if you have got yourself an absolute blinder there ! How do you know the "real owner" is the "new owner", if the name on the register is still the "original owner" ? I thought the register was the definitive proof of ownership. Do you know if the...

Re: Documents to carry whilst driving

Just out of curiosity (no personal interest, my car is on spanish plates), but what happens when one of the many old bangers still on UK plates gets stopped. How can the police do a computer insurance check on those ? I thought EU regs say that a car has to be insured in its country of registration,...

Ojen, Marbella

We are planning to visit Ojen (near Marbella) one morning soon. There are 2 places we would like to see: The Olive Oil Museum [/b]and The Ojen Wine Museum . The problem is we can't find out the opening days or times, or even if they still exist! I have looked online with no joy - as the phone number...

I too am pretty sure there have been no more additions or amendments. However good your spanish, the "legalspeak" phrasing in these documents can be a bit of a handful. You can find a part translation of the text by a good translation company at www.castillotraductores.com, but it is just ...
