Perhaps your vilification of the work of Cervantes explains your constant denigration of all things Spanish.

Yes, you will receive just the BBC channels and ITV3 plus, of course, all of the radio channels and various other free channels most of which are not worth watching. A free to air receiver has no card slot so if, in the future, you decide you would like to have ITV as well this will not be possible ...

That's a good link, Hillybilly, and the Grundig 310/2 is great for southern Spain but unfortunately they are no longer available new although there may be some re-conditioned ones around. I have three of the Panasonic TUDSB30s but they are beginning to show their age and find it difficult to cope wi...

Patricia, remember that you will be buying a Free to Air receiver NOT Free to View. Zanuck, I knew you were going to ask that. I think the answer is 'No' but someone else may know better. Monterey, you should be looking for, preferably, a Pace 2600 or failing that, a Pace DS430N. You may have to obt...

Freeview receivers designed to receive digital programming via a UHF terrestrial rooftop antenna are unable to receive signals via a satellite. The frequencies are totally different.

See here for the difference between Freeview and Free to View or Free to Air.

The Pace 2600 is a Sky Digibox which has been superseded by the slightly inferior Pace DS430N. Both of these will accept a Sky card and are currently the best digiboxes for use in southern Spain. The Echostar is a Free to Air receiver which will NOT accept a Sky card but is a much more highly specif...

Any digital satellite receiver will be able to receive the free to air channels on Astra 28,2ºE. This is an Echostar model and it has a good specification. You have to bear in mind that you will have to tune it in yourself and you may need to enter the audio and video PIDs. These can be found on var...

A friend who works for a rival company says that Iberbanda have grossly overloaded their network by taking on too many new clients. I suppose he would say that wouldn't he but it does seem to be backed up by the facts.

If you see the state of some people's pools it is totally amazing what they are 'satisfied' with.

I think these magic solutions are a bit like the king's new clothes, no-one wants to admit that they have been conned.

The ability to communicate in Spanish is a requirement when applying for Spanish nationality but I think making it also a condition of residency, although a good idea, is a little unrealistic.

Do I have a secret formula? Please tell me about it because I have no idea what it is. I think it is Silver who has the secret formula but because he didn't put a comma after my name in his post it made it look like it was me. http://img4.picsplace.to/img4/1/conf.jpg Is it possibly Baquacil that you...

I haven't come across any system yet that doesn't have to be supplemented with chlorine especially with pool temperatures as they are at the moment.

When I had 256 kbps with Telefónica my test usually showed a connection speed of about 212 and since they upgraded their basic service to 512kbps I connect at about 430. 182kbps does seem rather low for a 512 service. They have delayed the installation for my friend until this afternoon but I will a...

I also have Spybot and Spyware Blaster installed as well as Ad-ware because one may find what the other misses and vice-versa. Your system can also be slowed down by intrusive Macromedia Flash ads on certain sites. That's one reason why I use Firefox as you can block Macromedia and just click of the...

The speeds given on their leaflet are what you can contract for. The basic service is 256kbps for €39 per month and you can pay more to get up to 4mbps. When I contacted them the other day they said they were now supplying 512kbps for €39 in this area but I am not sure if that applies everywhere. Wh...

Have you checked your connection speed?

I am meeting with an installer from Iberbanda on Monday as they are doing an installation for a friend.

I will see if he can tell me what is going on!

Have you tried contacting their customer services. They are usually very helpful but I'm not sure if they have English speakers.
