Taxi,bus,or thumbing a lift

Postby toplessinspain » Wed Jan 23, 2008 2:03 pm

We are arriving here on Friday, and staying in Gibraltar for a couple of days..we need to then go further up the coast,
which would be the cheapest/safest option for us:(we are two girls)

Taxi,
Bus,
or would it be safe to thumb a lift(are you allowed to do that in Spain without getting arrested?)

I also read on one post that there are criminals wanted in the costa del sol..will we be ok?

Ok I'm new here but I can't resist adding to this......

There are criminals wanted everywhere in the world not just the Costa Del Sol......unless you're asking will you be safe from getting arrested for being a criminal! :)

Dont thumb just as dangerous here as anywhere else, buses are cheap in Spain and very comfortable, just not worth the risk thumbing. But have fun

The bus is cheaper than the taxi. I don't see why it wouldn't be safe either.

It may be safe to thumb a lift. It may not be. That applies anywhere.

It is 10€ something from La Linea to Málaga. I think the taxi will work out a little dearer. It is 3€ something by bus to Estepona.

You didn't say where up the coast you wanted to go, so I hope this helps.

Of course if you want to go up the Atlantic coast this is irrelevant, I haven't been up there recently, although I don't think it is too dear to Cadiz. Similar prices I would think.

There is good information about bus timetables and prices on the internet. Portillo to Málaga and Comes to Cadiz.

Buen viaje.

Topless - forget the thumbing, for 3 reasons
1. There are some dodgy people around and you are coming from close to the ferry port that is a mecca for illegal criminals, some very violent.
2. The buses , as opposed to taxis are cheap and regular
3. It will be uncomfortable lugging your baggage around trying to find the best place to try thumbing. You could be waiting a long time for a lift.

Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

Seems like your travel arrangements are sorted for at least one of the days you are here......Obviously it wouldnt be fair on dealer (at his age  ) to take the whole load for the whole visit, so I'll take a day and I'm sure Spanish Lad (having already offered his "driving" services) will also take a day........

Toplessinspain indeed! I must say grabbing a sandwich by the beach at lunchtime here is sooooo much more pleasing on the eye than it ever was in Moorgate!!!!

Thankyou everyone for your kind offers-I do not know what or when we will be leaving Gibraltar, our plan is to stay for a few days, and go from there.I dont have any definate times,or days of when we wish to leave,so would mean you hanging on for the telephone to ring..its not fair on you..but thankyou anyway.
Perhaps a bus or taxi may be the best idea for us.
So where to after Gibraltar, is the best place to go(if we are working our way up to puerto banus/marbella)
Is it duecuesa,or is estapona better for nightlife?
or should we skip those and go straight up to P.Banus?

I wont be posting now, probably until Sat,as we will be travelling to spain tommorow.I will read and answer your replies-if i have any when i get to spain.
Bye bye for now.

Just managed to sneak in a quickie on here before i start my journey to the airport.

we will be in spain (hopefully permanently)but we will have to find work. You have probably gathered by now, what line of work we do-i wont spell it out for you.

Paula & alpujarra- wont be a holiday or a business trip.We are coming long term all being well, providing we can find decent well paid work, and possibly a couple of rich men thrown into the package.-thats if we dont get mugged or hauled off by a couple of criminals first.
everyone seems to have only bad things to say about spain, and it gets quite nerve scarey when you read all this nasty stuff going on.
I hope we find some paradise amongst all this horror.
