Gerry,
If they know where you live they will send you the papers about 4 months before your 65th Birthday. If they don't, I suppose you're just gonna have to tell 'em :lol:

Hi Gerryh,
If its UK pension, from my reading you have to claim otherwise they think you have deferred.
Have a Google on "State pension" loads of info.

Gerry - no government gives anything without making you work for it....

You have to complete a long form (16 pages) 3 to 4 months before your 65th birthday......and you are required to send in your original birth certificate and various other things as well.....good luck!!

Hi Gerryh, you can phone the pension office and they will fill the form with you over the phone if you are very near your birthday. I also forgot to fill the forms and did it all over the phone. They then send the form back to you and you just sign it and send it back. Much easier then having to worry about a long form to fill in yourself.

Starlet- do not worry about being rude on this forum - loads of people on here have no qualms about doing that ( not me of course).
Rick - I've got past 33 1/3 , and 45's now started towards 78's. Bu**er"!
Physical age ( 65 tomorrow), feel anywhere between 16 and 35, IQ now down to single figures( only ever got up to 12 - did the Mensa testpaper and sent it off, expecting around 150-160, it was sent back,marked Minus 2 as I had spelt both my first and second names wrong ( twice). :(

GerryH - My OH is pensionable age in December and has received nothing from DWP. We looked at the website and then phoned. We were given two different numbers before we got the correct department for those living outside UK. We were given this website address: www.dwp.gov.uk/eservice then told to click the ‘launch services and benefits online’ button. At this point it is possible to register and complete forms on-line. We have not tried yet, but did manage to register. Like you thought it would all just happen!!! Good Luck.

Recently turned 50 but 'retired' at 42. Fifty sounds so old to me (I know it's not really but ... yuk ... can't get used to it yet), but glad to see there's many others on here around my age. My Dad was 90 this year and still driving (beware anyone living near Stockport!!) and I think age is all in the mind.
