The cost of Sunday papers.

Postby K chameleon » Mon Feb 16, 2009 4:18 pm

How can they justify the prices, we don't get any supplements and they're printed in Spain?
Hubby bought the Mail on Sunday (I wasn't there to stop him), 3.30

Thinking of starting a protest, but as we only buy it once in a blue moon, don't think they'd notice if we didn't

Papers cost a lot to produce and that is offset by the advertising revenue they generate.

Producing papers in Spain costs the same but they do not get a corresponding increase in advertising revenue as the ads are mainly UK based. As a result there is less revenue to offset the costs - hence the higher price.

I just read them all online for free!

Point taken, but, surely they could print the Sundays for 2.20 and sell more.
Beach days coming up, I'm not taking my laptop to beach.
I do miss the Sunday papers over coffee :(

Much as I love my computer, I love my newspapers more. We buy 2 on Sundays, then sit down, either in front of the fire with a coffee, or outside with a glass of wine, and read them cover to cover. I always felt miffed that the papers don't have all the bits, but Sunday Telegraph has lots of bits. And once a month it has a massive puzzle section to keep you going all week. Their politics leave a bit to be desired (and himself says their sport isn't the best) but they do produce a good paper here.

There just a waste of money, about 60% of the paper is advertisments anyway.

I put the money i save not buying them and other morning papers into a jar and the share it out amonst the grandkids at Xmas.
