Daughter's 'Muriel'
Daughter's 'Muriel'
Our little town house is very typically Spanish - small windows and in fact the only natural light in the kitchen comes from a shaft in the corner which goes up to the terrace, which has a glass roof/floor depending on whether one is in the terrace or kitchen.
There was a large, bare wall on the sink side which we were worried about drilling into, to hang a nice picture maybe, so my daughter said she'd paint us a mural, and this is it! We are really pleased, it brightens the kitchen and looks great we think.

Re: Daughter's 'Muriel'
Really great! For a moment I thought the shutters were real put on to frame the view!
Re: Daughter's 'Muriel'
Thank you very much for the nice comments - much appreciated! My daughter is going to varnish the frame next time and also paint some clear acrylic paint which should look like glass in the middle sections of the shutters, as that's where the glass is on our other windows, when they are open properly.
This is the only other window in the kitchen, but it opens onto a wall, pretty much, so no light to speak of (or view! Lol!) In fact, our house has probably 4 or 5 houses touching bits of it, it's really snuggled in! Lol!

Re: Daughter's 'Muriel'
Simply stunning, IreneD, I love the way the plant leaves seem to come in through the 'window'
Re: Daughter's 'Muriel'
Impressive Irene..
Please don't take this a sly dig, as it's not intended that way, but it's a "mural". Muriel being a town in Zimbabwe or the Abba loving girl in that Australian film.

Re: Daughter's 'Muriel'
I think griff, that the 'muriel' was a nod to vintage Coronation Street, Hilda and Stan Ogden used to have a huge mural on their wall but she always referred to it as a 'muriel'.
It went beautifully with the 3 flying ducks also on the wall.
By the way, the 'muriel is stunning', a very talented young lady.

I'm always disappointed when a liar's pants don't actually catch on fire.

Re: Daughter's 'Muriel'
Yep, Ive seen it, it's definitely a 'muriel' (obviously not a Corrie fan .Griff.)

Re: Daughter's 'Muriel'
It´s brilliant, what an artistic daughter you have Irene. Love the ´muriel´
Re: Daughter's 'Muriel'
Yes, .Griff, it's a mural, have a read of my 'verbal' in my first post, I do use the correct term there, but I prefer to think of it as a 'Muriel' a la Hilda and Stan from Corrie. (Gosh, I can hear Hilda singing as I write! Lol!)
Lovely comments again, thanks so much! My daughter wasn't at all happy with certain bits, so I will tell her it's been much admired, she doesn't have a lot of confidence in her painting.
Ken, it probably took the equivalent of about 4 'working' days I should think, she worked for probably 3 or 4 hours at a time, over several days.

Re: Daughter's 'Muriel'
Yes, Ken, I'm the same, very proud of my daughter's talent. I wish she'd use it to make money really, maybe one day when her teenage children are off her hands.
I also have a 14 year old grandson who is a gifted musician, might as well show off about him, too, while I'm at it! He plays piano, organ and guitar brilliantly, and is in 2 choirs. Aren't we lucky, with our talented children and grandchildren?
