Mysterious little hanging things
Can anyone tell me what these are. Beige in colour, oblong one cm long tapering at each end and they hang vertically from the ceiling or are attached to the inside walls of our house, and even more in the shed.
Some critter's egg?
I always seem to be brushing them off the walls indoors but the shed being cluttered makes it awkward as I am liable to send a load of tools and equipment flying.
I am worried they may be the eggs of something nasty that will infest our stuff, our bedlinen and towels are stored in the shed in big plastic boxes....
I think they are too light to be ghekko eggs but maybe? spiders nests are round and made of their silk, its not a wasp or bee and I can't think of anything else we have round here, apart fron crickets and they don't come in the house. Too big for anything to do with mossies. Sorry no good at doing photos but hopefully my description is OK.
Any ideas please?

Surely not? If they are what are the bits that look like mouse droppings (and are dark brown as opposed to sandy coloured) on the window ledges and tables outside?

Re: Mysterious little hanging things
Hi,
Gecko droppings are generally stuck to the wall... They sound a bit like what you describe but very often they are white at the narrowest end.... is there any white on the ones you describe? If it is geckos then of course they will help to protect your stuff from the bad bed linen eating insects.... Good friends are geckos
A picture would be good even if not so high quality... Have a go if you have a digital camera and feel free to email it to me if you like....
The dark brown droppings outside if they are not stuck to a wall would probably be a rodent of some kind

The only other thing we get then is little worm like things that shed their skins, thinking about it the gekko droppings have whitish ends ..it was the tapered bit that made me plump for them though!

Re: Mysterious little hanging things
we have something that sounds similar - I've always thought they were old pupa cases or egg cases. They are between 1/2 & 1 inch long, very pale beige, slightly 'twisted' or spiral looking and dried up / empty (or at least the ones I've noticed are ). They hang on walls, doors, net curtains - in fact just about anywhere
Sorry - I don't have a photo & I'm in UK

Sound like food moth larvae
Or whatever larvae also likes to sit in bed linen.
Pheromone strips from health food stores gets rid of the moths and the larvae.

Re: Mysterious little hanging things
They are the pupae of Pantry Moths. The will bury through paper, plastic etc and will severly damage any foodstuff they get into. You get rid of them by simply pulling them of and squashing. Check all packaging carefully; they are a serious problem. Do a Google search on Pantry Moth and you will see what I mean.

Re: Mysterious little hanging things
Sorry - unless ghekkos poo paper thin pale beige hollow droppings, it can't be them.
Also why would a pantry moth be leaving evidence in the all rooms except the kitchen where the food is?
Whatever it is, it does not appear to be actually living, but something left by a living creature. We have more in the trastero than anywhere and there is no food in there.
Keep the ideas coming please?

Re: Mysterious little hanging things
Right, here's a pic of one of the things we have at our house - I took several, but this is the one that shows it clearest:
It is about an inch long & attached to the fly net that is outside the door. There were 3 of them quite close together, but I haven't noticed any others.

Hi
No mine are about 1cm long and seem to have a definite top and tail, they cling to the walls and hang from ceilings too.
The picture you posted doesn't seem quite the same but thanks anyway....

Re: Mysterious little hanging things
They are not gecko droppings
Gecko droppings are crusty and brownish/white in colour(depending on what they have been eating)
They also crumble, they certainly arent what is in your picture...100% sure on that.
They are some kind of moth / insect pupa, but what type ... who knows .. where is Wildside when you need him???
