If the Conservatives won 36.1% of the vote and the Liberals won 23% of the vote and Labour won 29% of the vote, then it seems obvious that only a coalition can work.
Either Lib/Con or Lib/Lab or of course Lab/Con (unlikely but not impossable)

Most coalition governments in europe take about a week to 10 days to hammer out a programme for government. Its usually time well spent because it eliminates any confusion furter down the line.
Why should it be any different in UK?
putting the "ANDA" into Andalucía..:)

I think no matter who the Libs choose ,we are looking at another election pretty soon.
I think in the In the long term it would be better if labour concede and allow the the other 2 to form a party
This will permit them to regroup and come back even stronger. What worries me about a lab-lib pact is that if things go really wrong then they might not get back in for another 20 years, which I know in this forum many people would prefer, but I believe would be a disaster for Britain.

Mark, it doesnt matter if Labour concede, because it dosnt follow that there will be a Lib Con alliance. If Labour pull out of an agreement with the Liberals, there still wont be an agreement with the Liberals and Tories.
Your other sentiments, I agree with.

If a Lab/Lib pact emerges the Tories will NEVER get in again. Under PR there are more people who will vote Labour and something else, than vote Tory. If Cameron cannot organise a Con/Lib agreement what hope is there for him to organise any other kind of agreement with any one else should he ever be PM? I think if the Con/Lib agreement is not reached the Tories will be forced to ditch their biggest stumbling block - the bumbling Cameron himself.

It's a huge mess but the plot is better than Eastenders ...

You are correct Lavander in thinking that Cameron hasnt done well and that a certain form of PR could radically reduce the Tories chances of ever been asked to form a government.
I dont think the Tories can make any sort of pact with the Liberals, their best hope is that a lib lab pact cant be made or fails quickly. There is still a chance that Cameron forms a minority Gov. but my bet is still that we wont have a Tory Gov. of any lenght for qite some time.

This has certainly exposed the Liberals for what they truly are. They were never in it "for the good of the Nation" otherwise they would have already done a deal with Cameron, they are purely in it for their own benefit. They want PR, and even Labour are not offering that, only AV.
As always, they have shown that they cannot be trusted to make a decisive and correct decision, and in doing so they will be despatched into oblivion at the next election. Good riddance.

If I were invited to dinner by various people and if it was a choice of any of the three leaders of the main political parties and Richard littlejohn. RL would come in last.
Man of the people? as most hacks he cares the least for the country. For the press it's all about money.
America would be the last country that have the right to laugh at the way we do things.
The hung parlement was caused by the voters. It has nothing to do with the politicians.
When it suits them they the voice of the people. Now they are Criticising the voters for putting Britain in this position

Q: How do you confuse a Daily Mail reader?

A: Tell them that the illegal immigrants are murdering paedophiles.

It's a *beep* light-hearted article not to debate the quality of the press or the *beep* cv's and salaries of the journalists. Suppose you are DM readers.

No wonder hardly anyone bothers to post anymore
