Costa Coffee

Postby oliveview01 » Tue Mar 27, 2012 10:54 pm

I was in Sevilla today and went for a coffee at Costa Coffee. I was asked (and shown the cups) what size cup of coffee I wanted... I said ´small´ which is big really! I paid and when the coffee was given to me it was in a cardboard cup with a plastic lid. I pointed out it wasn´t a takeaway I paid for. The lady informed me that they did not have small cups. I asked why had they shown me a small cup then.... I detest drinking hot drinks out of cardboard cups, I think the drink tastes of the card. She gave me a huge mug to pour the coffee into, I refused, I said I had paid for a cappuchino not a mixed up milky coffee (I like the froth) so she grumpily made me a small coffee in a great chunky mug (on my list of dislikes too, but I thought I had better not be too picky here! :silent: ) It it the norm to give coffee in cardboard cups at Costa if you have a small coffee? I just fancied a cappuchino for a change, I wished I had gone to a bar for my normal solo!

Serves you right for going to a British coffee franchise and expecting a decent cup of coffee :wtf:

I am curious as to what you paid for it, when I have seen these places at airports and in Scotland the prices on their menu board seem extortionate. I have never bought on as I wouldn't know what to order, what exactly is a choco, mocho, frappe latte? :wtf:

I can't remember using them in Uk very often if at all. I used our local one a few times ( long gone now) it had a great selection of sandwiches with spanish type fillings and various teas for my friend who likes her tea. I was in one last year in Sevilla and within half an hour of drinking a iced coffee ( in a paper cup I think) I was looking for a toilet due to severly upset stomach. They seem to have gone right down hill here and I would not use again. I much prefer a wee local bar with a friendly man behind the bar who serves me a spanish coffee, lovely. I had a few in town yesterday and a delicious plate of jamon and queso viejo, what more could you want, besides to share it with a friend maybe :-)

Blame it on the bus driver, a parcel and the tram stopping short of the center

Hard to bet a good coffee from the like of costa or insomnia. Cafe solo is ok but not a patch on a properly made latte.

¿Does it not depend on whether you want a coffee or a glass of milk?
If you want a bit of both you could try asking for a café con leche

I just hate all these coffee shops with menus for latte, mocha, cappuccino etc. Yet ask for a bog standard coffee and they look at you as if you are from a different planet. It's so much easier in a normal Spanish bar. Cafe con leche or cafe solo says it all. Why make things so complicated?

Hi Campo Steve ,
You have my vote there.
The size/price is good too, who wants a soup bowl size of hot milk

That reminds me............

A Spanish woman friend of mine, advanced age, visited her doctor in AEG to ask his advice on
reviving her husband's libido

'What about trying Viagra?' asked the doctor.

'Not a chance', she said... 'He won't even take an aspirin.'

'Not a problem,' replied the doctor. 'Give him a Spanish Viagra'...

'What is Spanish Viagra?', she asked.

It's when you drop this tablet into his coffee. He won't even taste
it. Give it a try and call me in a week to let me know how things went..'

It was a week later when she called the doctor, who directly inquired as to
her progress.

The poor old dear exclaimed, 'Oh, my God T'was horrid!
Just terrible, doctor

'Really? What happened?' asked the doctor.

'Well, I did as you advised and slipped it in his coffee and the effect was
almost immediate. He jumped straight up, with a smile on his face, a
twinkle in his eye and with his pants a-bulging fiercely! With one swoop of
his arms, he sent me cups and saucers flying, ripped me clothes to tatters
and took me then and there passionately on the tabletop! T'was a nightmare,
I tell you, an absolute nightmare

'Why so terrible?' asked the doctor, 'Do you mean the sex your husband
provided wasn't good?'

'Freakin Hell, it was the best sex I've had in 30 years!

But sure as I'm sittin' here, I'll never be able to show me face in Costa Coffee again

..

Costa Coffee are virtually in every UK motorway services, and I would love to see them booted out and have independant coffee shops in there. The coffee is bitter and overpriced. As for the cups, who in their right mind wants to drink their coffee out of a soup bowl ? I never use them, boil the kettle in the lorry and a jar of Nescafe is much better and an awful lot cheaper.

Couldn't agree more, Jimbo. They also take up a lot of outside space.
