First off, make sure it is well wrapped.
Two options, if it is within Ryanairs size and weight limit for hand luggage, and it is your ONLY hand luggage, you can take it in the cabin. If not, you will have to pay for it as hold luggage. If you go the latter route, book it online or it will be very expensive to check it in at the airport.

Re: Taking a framed picture on a flight
I have taken framed/ glazed art work on flights but thay have been within the 55x40x20 measurement limits for hand luggage, ie they fitted within the overhead locker. I must admit I was surprised, but there again, passengers can purchase glass bottles in the duty free if they want a weapon.

I took two slightly larger pictures with Easyjet and put them in the hold. I did wrap them very well with bubble wrap and sheets of hardboard. They both made it in good condition.

The obvious solution would appear to be ask Ryanair themselves??

There phone costs are probably more than the flight cost.gus wrote:The obvious solution would appear to be ask Ryanair themselves??

I carry framed stuff all the time from Spain, you will not be able to carry it as hans baggage as their bag size is(55x30) (22"x12") you will not have any problem if you pay and check it in as baggage.
hope this helps

Have you looked into the cost of simply posting the picture to yourselves from the UK?
I post items all over the world and the Royal Mail service is fine.
Just a thought

I suppose you've thought about taking it out of the frame, rolling it up so you end up with a 10" long roll, putting it in a tube and re framing the other end.
