Sesentaycinco Tarjeta

Postby BENIDORM » Wed Oct 09, 2013 10:52 am

I've had the 65 pensioner card for quite awhile now, and never actually used it, apart from once when I was asked for ID and it was the first card that I found in my wallet, and it was accepted.

So do any forum members use it regularly and has anyone actually had any benefit from it.?

Wouldn't want to think that I'm losing out !

Regards,
Gordon

Entrance to museums etc, bus fares at reduced rate. Used the card when asked for proof of over 65, most times wasn't asked.

I have used it a number of times for an 18% discount on spectacles. You get it off the whole price - not just the lenses.

Apparently the same applies to hearing aids and I have a friend who got 30% of a €1000 bill.

I use it when taking the bus.

I had forgotten about spectacles Sid. I had to replace just my damaged varifocal lenses (into the existing frame). Would that have qualified for the discount do you think?

Previously I had found a page, in English, describing the benefits etc. but can't find it now.

Yes you get the discount on the frames and any lenses, either separately or combined. If you broke the frames and kept the lenses you still qualify.

There seems to be little for us in this area, from the list linked above - maybe not for all then?

Well., That's good to see that many members are putting the card to good use.

I've been chatting to a few friends about the card and most say that they have found it most useful as a means of identity, ie..using a credit/ debit card in the supermarkets.
So if you don't have the card and are entitled to it then I suggest that it is worth while applying for, quite straightforward application and usually takes a few weeks, and it is free, and I also think that it's worthwhile registering the fact that you are over 65, who knows they may send you a free food parcel.

Regards,
Gordon the Pensionista.

Probably a silly question, but I assume you have to be resident, rather than just a property owner ?

You have to be on the Padron and strictly speaking you are only entitled to be on the Padron if your home is permanently in Spain so just being a property owner does not entitle you to be on the Padron whatever your Ayuntamiento might choose to say to the contrary for their own ends.

I posted the application form for my tarjeta sesentaycinco off two weeks ago today, and the card arrived in the post at lunchtime. I expected it to take longer so was pleased with that. Will put it to good use travelling around on the buses.

Hi Maureen

You are confusing the Sesentaycinco Tarjeta Card with the other Rail Discount Card. They are totally different systems See below

"Shortly after we arrived in Spain we discovered the Tarjeta Dorada, or Gold Card, that provides reduced fares on Spanish trains for those over 60 or the disabled. We purchased the annual discount card for €6.00 each at the train station. Then, when we bought train tickets online, all we had to do was add our unique card number to receive the discount.
