I live in Spain but all our income is in Sterling. A 30% increase in the exchange rate makes a HUGE difference to our disposable income.

As far as the value of my house in Sterling, I couldn't care less.

The problem is for people wanting to sell up and return to the UK is that the Spanish house would cost the same.
Athough it might be more attractive to UK buyers, it will be not for buyers from the Euro zone and
UK property is now 20 to 25 percent more expensive for buyers with money in the Eurozone.

I can see it hitting 1.60 very soon :D

Hopefully it will bring an end to those endless threads discussing where a carrot is cheaper

I think you may well be right katy.

I cannot believe it is nearly two years since I posted a thread saying euro under pressure but it still managed to hang on against the pound. Maybe that was all about UK interest rates and the state of the UK economy.

Anyway now that QE has started the euro is under pressure. Greece still isn't resolved. France needs more time and Italy is a time bomb. Funny how no one seems to have noticed that Camoron /Osborne managed to double the national debt while they managed the economy!

Must be good season in prospect though for holidays in Euroland. I wouldn't fancy going further afield to ISIS "type" countries.

Yes,Euroland is the best value right now. Lots of places not safe and the dollar/pound rate is bad for the Americas. I have just booked a suprise for OHs birthday. two nights in Monaco with BA in a good hotel plus helicopter transfer to and from Nice Airport, just over £400 :D Booking.com also has some very good deals in St. Petersburg now the rouble has crashed.
I asked OH if Marbella seemed any cheaper last week. He said how would I know i bought those euros at 1.22

Wow,

Actually bought at 1.4028 from Caxton this afternoon. First time I have got over 1.40 for years.

Notice "ICE" at Waterloo station are quoting 1.41. May have a look on my way to see the Gunners play the mighty Hammers on Sunday !
