We may have to be away from home for a while. Is there a facility for Correos to hold your mail rather than cramming it endlessly into the rather small Apartados ? Buzon with our name in the centre of the village? I dont want a mail redirect.
If there isn't , a Spanish friend has offered to empty the box periodically.

Hi olive,
I'd go for the Spanish neighbour to empty box for you, works OK for us.

All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.
Re: Correos mail hold
Use the neighbour. Correos can be a bit unreliable.
Re: Correos mail hold
Yes - use the neighbour - we had to do this one time when we were away for a couple of months. The main problem, as we had discovered on a previous occasion, is that if any official documents, parcels, or other oddments come, with the usual notice being posted into your box - if noone take attention, the certified letter about traffico fines !!!, parcels, etc etc will be sent back to their source - some can be after a fortnight, often it is within a month, and then you are left with the consequences!!
Use the neighbour !! You might like to leave an explanatory letter and a photo of your NIE and Passport, with the good folk in case they do have to collect anything certified on your behalf, that they need to sign for....

mmm. Convincing arguments for using a friend to empty the box periodically.
Thanks for the comments especially about parcels.

Re: Correos mail hold
When I go away always ask my next door neighbour(give her the key to my box)to empty my box. We get so much junk mail and a full mail box is a sure giveaway.

How can you see if it is full from the front?

When all the free junk mail is hanging out the top. Burger and Pizza flyers etc. And then they try and ram in an Ikea catalogue.

Re: Correos mail hold
They certainly do not allow that in my Correos post box. Anyway, the front of the box is completely closed and mail can only be put in from the sorting room on the other side.
Re: Correos mail hold
Maybe Evelyn is commenting about the post box at her house ?
Having a friend or neighbour to collect mail from the Correos is the best way forward and the same for post boxes attached to your house or 'Buzon banks ' on and in urbanisations /apartments.
I have a large brass letterbox set in the wall, with a large collection box behind and a security camera watching it... not usually any problems.
Regards,
Gordon
