Costa del Narcos - TV heads up
Costa del Narcos - TV heads up
Tonight on BBC2 10p.m. Spanish time. Just a Heads up on a programme how Southern Spain has become a gateway for drugs into Europe. Should be interesting and no doubt will be available later on iplayer.

It is a huge problem. When you put together the stuff we have read in the media, it makes for a frightening picture. The drugs ruin lives and not just those that take them. There was the police chief in Seville caught with pay off money in his account , used to pay staff not to be on the banks of the river in Seville at certain times.
Stacey has done a whole raft of these investigations. Hats off to her for getting access to both sides of her story.
My question would be why doesn't the Spanish government throw resource at opening more containers at Algeciras, given the success rate with the few they do open?

I watched this video recently with an acquaintance (you can never really consider a guardia civil to be a friend) in the Guardia Civil whose colleague was interviewed in the programme.
It struck us both at the same time that the oil slick who was interviewed about two thirds of the way through the programme left out the most common reason for a court case against the drug smugglers to collapse and it has nothing to do with the quality or presentation of the evidence.

Are you referring to "being paid off"?
My feeling is that nations only pay lip service to tackling this epic drug problem. It is easy to think it is only a problem for the drug users and that they are low life etc. The reality is that everyone of us is affected. We pay for rehab, policing, courts, directly if victims of crime to pay for drugs and so on. I am still stunned at the epic scale of drug taking. Half a million doses of cocaine a day in London for example. Maybe we just accept it in the way that smoking was accepted and drinking is.

Am I referring to 'being paid off'? To quote the wonderful Francis Urquhart, 'You may think that... etc'!

I have never believed that it would be difficult to develop a plant virus that wiped out the plants that this stuff comes from, or even for a major force to napalm the growing fields. The problem would be that too many of the ruling elite would object to losing their little friend Charlie, and that the economies of several countries would be wiped out.
I used to cough to disguise a [email protected] I f@rt to disguise a cough.
Re: Costa del Narcos - TV heads up
Wrong time to be talking about " developing a virus" methinks!
Re: Costa del Narcos - TV heads up
probably not the best timing.
