Re: Calima!
cant be bad enough to want to wear a mast voluntarily surely?
Re: Calima!
The Spanish weather man warned of calima over most of Spain this weekend. It's just overcast here today but we have had it very bad in the past and it does feel suffocating when there's so much dust in the air.
Re: Calima!
Yes if you have respiratory problems. We were at the vets in Granada yesterday and it was just horrendous in the city with the normal pollution and the calima. Just taken a photo outside of a village we can normally see 8 km away. It is totally obscured. The funny thing is you think it is “ in the distance” but of course anyone looking this way would see it was just as bad!

Granada temp must have been well in the 40s

Weather so far has not been great in the far north so far this summer. I feel a bit better now knowing we have escaped this and are currently experiencing cool fresh weather. So much so that I had to wear a sweater on my walk yesterday evening..

It wasn't so bad here yesterday near Torrox, and we were cooler than friends up the road in Caleta. It quickly fell to 25 when the sun was going down but I think the wind changed and it went back up again, so about 27 near midnight. This coming week is certainly not looking so bad (ie hot!) with temperatures mid to high 20s. Not a fan of suffocating heat so days below 30 are preferable for us.

Re: Calima!
I didn't mind yesterday so much (reports say it reached 40.5C in Vélez-Málaga), nor the very hot day we had on 28 June. The weekend before this last one was the worst, when it was very hot for 4 consecutive days. We always get a few over the course of the summer but it's more bearable when they are single days followed by a few cooler ones.
A friend in Ireland has been moaning for weeks about the weather there, it has rained almost every day apparently, and she's becoming depressed. On balance I think I prefer the heat.

Re: Calima!
If the Terral is blowing 40+ is not unusual. The temperature was registered on the taxi thermometer in central Málaga which will be hotter than the weather station at the airport. Here in La Herradura it was almost 10 degrees cooler.

Re: Calima!
I hope we don't get a repeat of the first Sunday in August last year when Vélez-Málaga recorded the highest temperature in all of Spain, 45.6C. On the same day Málaga capital recorded 43.7C, but even that was slightly below the highest temperature ever recorded there, which was 44.2C on 18 July 1978.

Re: Calima!
Best investment recently was converting the large top room into a chill out room, replaced metal door that leads to one of the roof terraces and installed a good aircon unit which I have set to a pleasant constant 21 degrees whatever is going on outside on terrace, new fridge, moved TV from front room up and got one huge sofa, so far its bliss. Can retire up there when needed, hence question on another thread regarding Samsung tv for downstairs. Was reading 39 on terrace Sunday afternnon....

I turn our study into a cold room. Somewhere to escape to to cool off. No fridge but it’s not far to the one in the kitchen. TV is a 5K 27” Apple iMac. The old 55” is now in a shady corner of the garden.

Good grief! I am leaving Tenerife to escape the and now I found out you have them there as well. But at least you don’t have muggy air with an erupting volcano!
