Trains / RENFE

Postby anyroads » Mon Oct 03, 2022 7:32 pm

Looking at trains out there for late October / early November, it seems a lot of trains are already booked out.

What is happening ?

I do realise there is some kind of free travel out there, but I assume it is for workers, not tourists. Can't believe people are jumping on trains at that time of year travelling all over the place !

I think the free travel is for the local trains. I've just been to Sevilla by train from Malaga and booked as soon as they came available online. The outward one got busier as it did a couple of stops, but the homeward bound one was packed full at Seville. When I arrived back at Maria Zambrano the station was very busy. I did travel Monday and Friday which perhaps are busier. Usually we travel midweek which tends to be a bit quieter.

Late October to early November? Could it be the bank holiday and puente?

Things seem to have settled down on the trains again, perhaps.

I was able to book online for 10th May travelling from Seville, and back later in the month without any problem. Also, the trains were not showing "fully booked" as per a year ago !

Anyone know if this "covid" travel scheme has now ended as we are into a new year ?

Happy New Year everybody.

Has anyone any idea how long in advance you can book on RENFE these days.

Strange I may have to book a train, before I think about booking a flight !

local buses are still discounted if you use the locals card system. 1.70 without card, 1.13 with a card but still .45 cents today

Just use the trains, pay full price for buses on the rare occasion I catch one.

Last time I was in Spain, could not get a train to Malaga on the days I wanted, so did not get there for the few days I had I mind, and that was after checking at the rail station. Hoped it is more or less what it was pre covid. You turned up at the station and booked. Fortunately I had left booking a hotel until I had sorted out the rail tickets !

Oh well.

Booked to fly to Seville mid May. Guess it will be April before I can book a train to travel on, on the day.
