Almond Tree Blossom Season

Postby underwater » Sun Jan 14, 2007 2:16 pm

MY daughter in law wants to visit
during the almond tree blossom
season.
Please can someone tell me when this
season begins and how long it lasts.
I just can't remember from last year.
I live in La Alpujarra,Granada Province.

I would say early Spring. End Jan to end of Feb depending on the area of Spain you live in. They´re are not out fully in my area yet but another couple of weeks they should be in flower.

Almond trees are already in flower in Derbyshire due to the mild winter so I'd expect in Andalucia / Granada they will be starting about now.

The pink ones are in flower around us at present, no doubt the white ones will follow soon.

Interesting replies - we are only 30 mins south-west of Granada, yet none of the trees seem to be anyway near to flowering

Almond Blossom

Postby poppylou » Tue Jan 16, 2007 7:27 pm

Both pink and white blossom out here at 1000 ft, south facing slopes, near Competa, Axarquia, since 1st January. North facing slopes are just beginning to get their blossom.

Saw 1 flower on 1 tree on 1 January, south facing slope, near El Borge - sad, or what?!

HI all

Well both are coming out here slowly and we are at 800 meters in Los Portales. They started about a week ago , most of our slopes are east/north facing . The local people have told me its too early .. but there you go , no one told the trees!

Cheers

Fred
