Change Username

Postby jonbar.1 » Thu Mar 09, 2023 10:42 am

Just tried to alter.my Username.
Selected "Profile" > " Account settings".
There are options to change Password & email address but not to change ,Username.
At the bottom field it tells me to " enter current password to change Username"..... this doesn't seem to help.
Any tips please?
Ta. JB.

Hi jonbar.1,
You will need to get Gerry (or El Cid) to get Admin to change your username.
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Why would you want to alter your user name? Everyone know you as jonbar1

True Costakid. You are absolutely right of course.
Problem is; Im a bit of a minimilist  ; I began to get fed up of the ".1" bit at the end! Thought the simple "jonbar" would be better.
Thought it might just be a matter of a couple of clicks; only to find that I can't change my own username myself.
I think I'll park the idea for now.

Admin kindly changed my username. I was originally white horse, but decided to use the name I'm known as on other websites and forums. (It should have been knowall with two "Ls", but it's good enough. ;)

I often wonder where people got their usernames from.I used to think you may have been called "Al" ( Alan) Knowal; until you mentioned the double "L"
Why can we not change our own usernames?
Seems a bit odd.
This is the only site I have come across to do this.
It's no big problem......I'm just curious

A friend at work had nicknames for us all. Actually I should be spelt with an x in the middle, not cks as I was named after the barman in Eastenders when it first started. She used to call another friend Tonk, so I guess it could have been worse.

We can't change our own usernames because admin have set up the forum that way. It's in the phpbb3 forum permissions, which can be a bit of a nightmare.
A change to the permissions would make it possible, with no loss of post counts. ;)
