Yes, it's 2000 posts. I think it may have been reduced from 2500 but either way it's a lot of posts.

Yes there are 25 members with Guru status but 5 now seem to be inactive.

What was the original purpose of the Gurus Den Sid? If all one has to do these days to gain entry is play an online game for a few weeks to make enough posts I can't see there is much purpose in it at all.

I think the original purpose (long before I got involved) was merely to give members a title based on the number of posts they had made.

The Gurus Den was introduced but has never been used much. 16 topics and 141 posts since it started.

Personally I can see little point in having it.

The Amigo's Lounge is now a section where posts not relevant to Andalucia can be posted. It is surprising how few qualifying members bother to request access.

I am quite happy for there to be a discussion about the whole thing but please, start a thread in the "About this forum" section.

Can't you just shift this whole thread there?

Well personally I'm very proud to be a Guru, and just look at all of the benefits it brings with the title...

1.......
2.......
3........

Well right at this moment I can't think of any, but surely there must be something ?...

Yes access to either the General forum or this one is unrestricted.

Now, if I had moved it to the Lounge that would be different.

rafiki - I joined an American specialist forum and was quite bemused to see a thread called "count" in the general section. A particular member had made all of the hundreds of posts in that thread.
First post was "1"
Second post was "2", and so on.
The forum admin obviously allowed this obsessive to sit flooding the forum with this crud, merely to improve his post count and standing in the forum.

I just thought

Sure. The BB systems have had this odd 'ladder' system for as long as I can remember and it often doesn't reflect the quality of a member's posts. I like the boards which have a like and/or a thanks button which saves an enormous amount of bandwidth.

The ladder system in phpBB can be disposed of or modified as required by the admin.
The best forum for feedback and thanks is probably vbulletin, I don't think it is free, mind you, $250 for a licence.
phpBB3 is free.
