Forum software update
Forum software update
Dear Forum members,
Good news at last, we now have an successful upgraded version of the forum on a development server.
It is the latest version of the php BB
https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2534541
As well as being more secure and faster, running on PHP 7.3, Centos 7.3 there is an extensive list of improved features.
https://www.phpbb.com/about/features/
The current forum user accounts and all posts were successfully imported last week as a trial.
We hope to go live towards the end of the month or early next to coincide with an upgrade on the main website as well.
To go live we will need to refresh the database and there will be a period of about a day when any posts (not threads) might disappear. Any new registration might disappear as well. We will warn you nearer the time.
We are also aware there have been some annoying bugs in the present system which we have declined to fix, hoping that this edition will resolve them.
Once live we can use this thread to report any issues or consider any configuration or new feature suggestions.
With best regards,
Forum Admin.

Hi Forum Admin,
As a chosen man on your Insider channel I reported Bugs end of last Month and they have been fixed..........but the one I reported on 4th April with a Screenshot By PM and Email has not been acknowledged ........... Looking this morning on the "dev" system I see it's still outstanding.
Good to hear you are making progress ...............

Good to hear this as I'm looking forward to a username change
Re: Forum software update
Will you be also able to change your avatar? Some days I see it as a baby Einstein and others it scares the bejabbers out of me as Chucky
Re: Forum software update
That's the avatar I want, Olive.

Re: Forum software update
Argh , there it is again.
No problems. It was just a bit of fun. I now have a mental picture of you

Re: Forum software update
One change or update I would like is when I click on a link or advert, It opens a new tab and doesn't take me away from the A.com page I am reading.

Re: Forum software update
I don't think that is what Mark is referring to.
I often fall foul of it in Firefox.
If there is a link in a message then unless I select "open in a new tab" it opens and replaces the A.com tab.
There are other forums I am on when clicking a link opens in a new tab.
Cheers
Gerry

Re: Forum software update
Hi Guys,
I see where mark is coming from now.......not a feature I use as it was in early versions of Firefox......alas no more.
A quick change on the Site is needed..............Example
https://www.w3schools.com/tags/tryit.as ... ink_target
As a simple workaround in the mean time............Firefox
press Ctrl key and then the link and it will open in a new Tab..............
If you want to automatically switch to the New Tab...............
Make Firefox automatically switch to newly opened tabs by opening the "Options" window, clicking "Tabs," and then enabling the "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately" option.
OR
Hover mouse over link and press central mouse button..............
Note..........
Having too many tabs open can slow down your Web browser...........

Re: Forum software update
When I open a thread and go to a previous page there are now loads of ads (5 ads generally, plus one at the top and one at the bottom of the page) appearing between the posts. There was always one at the top but now they are interspersed in the thread and even within posts. Is this the site or something to do with my computer, although I haven't altered anything.

Hi Wicksey,
My take at the moment..........."don't adjust your set"
I think they are switching over to the "New" updated site...........would be nice if they told us.........

The ads are still there and I now see that there's another thread on it too, so not just me.

Re: Forum software update
Dear Members,
The upgrade to the new server has now taken place. If you can read this you are looking at the upgrade version. It was just refreshed from the a backup data base of Tue May 12, 2020 2:40 am so any post or user registration between then and now (Wed May 13, 2020 8:17 ) has been lost.
The server is fully updated versions of Centos, PHP and this BBS.
Some member may still see the old for the next 24hrs as the new DNS info propgates.
best regards
