Replacement Moderator
Replacement Moderator
As some of you may have noticed, Beachcomber has been absent from the forum for some time. He has recently advised us that he has decided to step down as moderator. We have thanked him for his service over the many years both as moderator and also as one of the initial beta testers of the current forum software in 2004.
Our thoughts now turn to a replacement to support El Cid. Can we ask members to nominate their choice of a replacement moderator on this thread ‘Replacement Moderator’ in the ‘About this forum’ section. We also welcome Self-nominations. As a confidential alternative you can also PM nominations to El Cid. A decision will be made jointly by El Cid and the Forum Admin.

Re: Replacement Moderator
Enrique, the link you posted is a very accurate analysis of what I do as a moderator. No technical knowledge is needed, just a small learning curve to be able to carry out mainly forum housekeeping, such as moving, deleting or editing posts.
Any major decisions involving members' behaviour, etc. are decided in consultation with both mods and the site owner.
Technical issues, such as the recent sign in problems are dealt with by admin.
If anyone is tempted to volunteer and needs more information, just PM me.
Sid

Re: Replacement Moderator
There are several people I think would be excellent moderators, Enrique or Wicksey would be top of my list.

Re: Replacement Moderator
I have to be honest, I did consider putting my name forward but came to the conclusion as I am still working, It is not the right time for me.
The first person I thought of was Gerry so like Enrique, now I know he has entered, I too nominate Gerry H.

Re: Replacement Moderator
Hi Cid, how many hours a week are needed roughly to do the job competently.

Re: Replacement Moderator
That’s all done by admin. The mods are not normally involved.
To answer Costakid’s question, it impossible to give a time estimate, apart from the need to read every post in a timely fashion. I expect to log in about 6 times a day.

Re: Replacement Moderator
re the time required being a moderator ... methinks only those who use those new fangled diy machines in supermarkets would have such time available!
Re: Replacement Moderator
No, Enrique, I have not.
I now live in England, and although that is no reason not to be able to moderate, I am scaling down my forum activities, so I'm not volunteering.
I only look in here about once a week.
Re: Replacement Moderator
how many in the running Sid?
Enrique, how can you recommend Gerryh? Do you know him or just from his posts think he would be good? I notice he live quite a way from you. I am not saying he wouldn’t make an excellent mod but just wondering on a mostly faceless forum how people propose each other.
Beach was an excellent mod as is El Cid. I have had a few disagreements with the mods in the past but they do a great job 99.9% of the time.

Re: Replacement Moderator
Well this would explain why I couldn't get a reply about logging in for months. No staff . . . . .
Did it get resolved ?
