Travelling by ferry in winter

Postby elizabennett » Mon Aug 15, 2022 11:21 am

We have travelled by ferry (Rosslare to Bilbao and return) twice and found it very pleasant (May-June this year, September-October last year). We are thinking of going in November for six to eight weeks.
Has anyone travelled by ferry November through February? What was the crossing like? Are cars safe with turbulence?
And what about the road trip from Bilbao to Malaga? Do they clear the motorways of snow and ice?

The crossing can be very rough in the summer months. We travelled in August many years ago and it was a force 9. All restaurants had to close. The cars are safe even when rough, they chock the wheels.
I have driven from Santander to Malaga in February with lots of snow on the ground but main roads are always clear.

Cars are safe. Crossings can be rough and uncomfortable sometimes. Biscay can be a problem any time of year, though.

It's always good to get a second opinion :)!
