As a retirement treat for hubby, we are planning a trip to Australia next year and are looking to stay for about 6-8 weeks. Anyone know of a similar forum to this in Oz that we could look at before we go?

We spent a few years there (partner was Aussie resident) - although a while ago. If you have some general questions we might be able to help.

Trip Advisor have a comprehensive Australia forum - look under their South Pacific Forum section, www.tripadvisor.com

All I can add Jane is if you are anywhere near Brisbane the trip to watch the humpback whales in Moreton Bay is absolutely fantastic, depending on season of course.

I was there at the beginning of an August, Laclotte and there were many whales migrating through at that time.

Global warming gives the wrong impression, which is why it is better to refer to climate change. My experience was back in 2002.

Many people who visit Australia try to do too much, but with 8 weeks, you have time to do all the highlights plus have some chilling time. It's a great country. The locals are friendly. Have fun. I've been twice and the one place I've missed is Cape Tribulation north of Port Douglas, Queensland. The rain forest comes down to the Ocean.

Unfortunately I was only in AUS for 3 days with just half a day free at the end, hence my dash to do a bit of whale watching before the flights home.
