Malaga Airport - Smoking Room

Postby Marj » Fri Nov 30, 2007 8:41 am

I was pleased to see that Malaga Airport is still operating a Smoking Room in area "C" I think this is a realistic and very sensible approach. This area does not infringe the rights of the rest of the non smoking public. Does anyone know if this room is permanent? Is there any other smoking rooms in other areas of the airport?

I was in Alicante airport last week and noticed what seemed to be a smoking area in the departure lounge. It wasn't advertised as such but there was an absence of no smoking signs and plenty of people were smoking in there.

I was in Manchester Airport and saw an area with glass walls, inside which people could smoke. It was quite comical to see hordes of children watching the luggage with their faces pushed up against the glass staring in at their smoking parents.
anyway, anyway, love from me.

We were in Barcelona airport last week, and try as I might, couldn't find a smoking area anywhere. Malaga's is fairly civilised compared to some. The one that used to be at Leeds didn't have any seats!

So as alisonb states it is civilised to have a smoking area

Do you remember how they encouraged people to smoke in advertising and films, and now they have a major problem with people having lung cancer through smoking and passive smoking and you call this practise civilised.

The biggest drain on the NHS is fat people who stuff themseves full of salt ridden junk food.....are you saying that these people are not civilised :? ?

It's comments like yours that make me want to start smoking again.

There's far far more happenings in the world that I'd class as uncivilised, but once more smokers are the easy target for self righteous preachers who like the sound of their own sound bites.

Live and let live for christ sake................the room in malaga affects nobody who doesn't want to be in there.

They can have as many rooms as they like, it still does not make it civilised.

Surprised at manchester, though. I though smoking was now illegal in any walled and roofed building. Is it open to the elements?

When I was last in Malaga Airport, early April 2006, the smoking area was a clearly marked area of about 3 metres by 4 metres. With a chest high desk-like piece of furniture and several ashtrays. No walls, open to the rest of the Airport. If I could find my picture, and IF I knew how, I would post it here. (I had to take a picture of my wife in the "smoking area".)

The smoking room now is at the end of terminal C, near desks 52/53.

It is large and totally enclosed with big extractor fans and the best views in the Airport.

I remember years ago when we first went to Turkey, after a 4 hour flight
most smokers wanted a cigarette but in the terminal, which took ages to process everyone through, there were huge signs up saying no smoking and a fine of about 10m lira.

Funnily enough the armed security police in the airport all had ciggies hanging out of their mouths and were puffing away.

Everyone was daring each other to light up but didn't bother as we weren't sure at the time how much the fine was or fancied getting machine gunned.

Even the guy who took our £10 visa fee (cash tin was an empty crisp box!) was puffing away like a chimney.

Coming back everyone was smoking in the departure lounge, despite signs and armed guards, who looked as if they couldn't have cared less
I'm always disappointed when a liar's pants don't actually catch on fire.

In Thailand you can smoke practically anywhere, the cigarette packs are all adorned with pictures of people suffering from smoking related diseases, when you order fags from the waitress they usually slit open the pack with a stanley type knife then slide a piece of cardboard in to obscure the picture, very funny.
On a personal level I only smoke cigars but the hypocrisy of the government towards smokers pi55es me off, "You can buy cigarettes but you can*t smoke them anywhere" what *beep*.
I have to say in my opinion the only way to stop people from smoking is to ban them on a national level, that's my twopenneth anyway.
Ah! the full english!!

What a good idea Retro P - why has no-one thought of that, because it works so well with crack cocaine, heroin, skunk, underage drinking, underage sex, prostitution, pornography, stealing from shops, bribing politicians, taking money under false pretences, beating up old ladies for their handbags..........doesn't it?
Perhaps the "P" stands for "Pike" - famously called by Captain Mainwaring "stupid boy!".

Well put Peter.
Retro you can smoke in your own home or in the great outdoors. That's quite enough. I think the way it is being treated in the UK now is just about right. It will die out or dwindle to near nothing of its own accord. Ban it and it becomes forbidden fruit.
Evidence coming through seems to demonstrate that the downgrading of cannabis has resulted in declining consumption, particularly in the most vulnerable age groups, illustrating the point.

There is no smoking anywhere in Heathrow now. There used to be two areas, one was awful, reminded me of an opium den they used to show in photos! I asked what had happened to them and was told there is NO smoking area in Heathrow, once you get through security control, nada. I have just stayed in a Hilton hotel, all smoking rooms taken. It said inside the door "smoking inside this room is against the law" and the ******** windows didn't open (insert your own word). Outside the hotel was a sort of canopy with notices not to smoke there, they had constructed a sort of bushelter hidden behind the bushes!!
