HELP NEEDED TO GET A HIRE CAR!!

Hello Folks
Wonder if anyone out there can help ??
We are coming over to stay in Cortes on 10th August for 3 weeks and flying into Gib. The hire car companies are generally sold out and we need a 7 seater like a Safira or Touren etc. Anybody any ideas

Not much help I know but one of the reasons is no finance for the hire companies to buy new ones. There are no hire cars left to rent.

Hi Katy,

That's right. I have also been told that that all the hire businesses expected a poor year due to the credit crunch and euro and so reduced their leasing of cars etc . Basically they have been caught out as people are going on their hols anyway and there are not enough cars!!
Anyone out there in forum land got a 7 seater they want to loan out for 21 days? I will do the insurance.........nice earner for someone.........anything less than Euro 1,500.00 gratefully accepted!!

as katy said, it´s not that the companies didn´t want to buy cars, but they can´t because the banks won´t give them finance

My daughter managed to book a Zafira on Sunday through Amigo Autos, for last week July and first 10 days of August. Try them. (Never heard of them or used them before)

I guess Gib is harder as well, not so many companies operating from there. I see Zafira available from Málaga for €1,634 for those dates, so there are still vehicles about, maybe just not from Gib.

Thanks Frank, trying this one now................never heard of it before and it didn't come up when I googled hire car firms in Gib etc.
Awaiting a reply confirmation tomorrow or earlier hopefully..............will keep you all posted

I have used them the last 5 times I rented. The type of car (van) you are looking for is the only type that they rent their own stock. Regular cars they shop around for you.
They are at Malaga Airport but I believe they also operate out of Gib.

Basically, it says that all the companies were able to buy new cars very cheaply, run them for 6-12 months, and sell them on for more than they bought them. They were making more money that way than renting out cars. However, with the banks refusing to offer money, hardly anyone is replacing new cars. New cars registered between Jan and May this year were down 90% compared with 2008, and there are 40% less cars available. Car rentals prices have gone up from 50-100% since last year.

I have been in touch with my friend who comes over regularly from UK to Gib.This is what she said when i asked her about her car hire company

"We use carjet on the web, the office is by all the new shop units by McDonalds (first unit looking at the border, called Arora) and you collect the car from the underground car park near there."
